117.a company's two divisions performed with remarkable consistency over the past three years:in each of those years,the pharmmaceuticals division has accounted for roughly 20 percent of dollar sales and 40 percent of profits,and the chemicals division for the balance.

which of the following can properly be inferred regarding the past three years from the statement above?

(C)the chemmicals division has realized lower profits per dollar of sales than has the pharmaceuticals division.

这个题我怎么看的云里雾里的,好像看不懂题干的意思,请大牛们指点呀!

好像是说一个公司有两个部门，在过去的三年中，其中的一个harmmaceuticals部门每年都卖出公司总sales的20%，产生的利润却是公司总利润的40%；而另一个chemicals部每年卖出80%的sales,产生60%的利润。for the balance的意思可能就是说完成了差额。
