The argument above requires which of following assumptions?

就在你提到的A和D之间做解释。

原题说了，federal tax 之前的一年，sales of cigarettes fell one percent；federal tax 之后的一年，sales of cigarettes fell ten percent。造成销售量（供需均衡量）大幅变化的原因不外有三：供给端的失衡，需求端的失衡，以及供需价格相反方向的大幅变化。

很明显，原题没有讨论cigarettes的供给和需求端（生产者和消费者的偏好）经历了何种失衡的状况，那么需要的考察销售量的锐减原因只能是因为价格上涨所导致的需求量的下降。哦对了，大过年的千万不要和我提什么吉芬商品啊，我会很难过很难过的……

原题的结论是 volume of cigarette sales is therefore strongly related to the after-tax price of a pack of cigarettes，那根据上面的推理，你只要证明after-tax price 在federal tax 之后的一年确实上涨了，从而可以解释sales of cigarettes fell ten percent，就可以了啊。反之，如果你不能证明after-tax price 真的上涨了，那 strongly related to 的推理就有麻烦了，无法严格成立了。

看了上面的解释，为什么选D很明白了吧。the pretax price of a pack of cigarettes was not eight or more cents lower than it had been the previous year，这话的意思是pretax price 最多只能比去年低了个7 cent。那很明显啊，在pretax price 的基础上再加了个eight cent的federal tax ，那after-tax price 至少是比去年高了1 cent啊，所以确定无疑的after-tax price 是涨了，可以支持after-tax price 和sales of cigarettes fell ten percent之间有strongly related 的说法了。

你选A的这个不自觉地把federal tax 和after-tax price 进行概念对换的推理，反映出你基本逻辑架构的缺陷。准确地说，在你的大脑里没有一个与生俱来的严密的逻辑架构，所以对于任何接受到的新的信息，你只有先弄清楚了他们彼此之间的逻辑关系后，才能在推理中给出他们相对准确的逻辑位置，并基于此完备你的逻辑框架。然而在大多数情况下，严密推理对我们的要求是恰恰相反的，对于任何得到的新的信息，我们是预先不知道其彼此间的内在逻辑联系的，这个时候你需要已经有一个与生俱来的逻辑框架，在框架当中可以迅速地找到新信息合理（与你本身的逻辑框架不发生冲突）的逻辑位置，并在以上各个位置确定后，清晰地归纳出每个信息部分之间的逻辑关系。

而这个与生俱来的逻辑框架，就是我经常说的天生的无法通过后天努力提高的逻辑能力，你的这个框架越是严密，你在处理逻辑关系未知的新信息时，就能够以更少的差错和更快的速度在你逻辑框架中找到他们相应的位置，并进而更清晰地归纳出彼此间的逻辑关系。除去极少数因幼年时脑部受到硬物夹击而导致智力发育停顿的不幸人群，大部分成年人类多多少少在大脑里是有一个逻辑框架的，不过其严密和精细的程度因人而异，可以有很大的程度的差别。

各位在这里背寂静，题海战术训练大全习题，固然可能会提高你GMAT的最终逻辑分数，但是绝对不会让你的逻辑能力有质的改变，GMAT的题目毕竟都是人为编造出来的，在真实的案例中，你要面对的新信息更多，不可知的因素也更多，你很难指望通过机械地对过往案例的训练来支持自己在新案例中异于常人的表现。只怕是你再努力，这辈子也只能蜷缩在学到的过往案例里，靠吹吹牛卖卖嘴皮子讨份生活，对于那些幻想通过MBA改变自己的命运，“做更好的自己的”朋友们，我的意见在某种程度上也许是值得参考的。

其实不用分析这么多。
我们用P1，P2分别代表香烟税上升前后两年（以下简称第1年和第2年）的税后价。
设A为第1年地税前价格，B为第1年的税价。
则：P1=A+B

2=A2+B+8(美分)
那么如果A2=A-8(也就是说，第2年税前价格相对于第1年税前价格下降了8美分)，则P2=A-8+B+8=A+B=P1，这就相当于价格根本没变，说明税上升没有影响价格，自然也不会影响销量。
同理，如果A2=A-9甚至更加大于8的数，其结果一定是P2小于P1,好么，税上升了，香烟价格还更加下降了，愈发不会影响销量了。所以这是一个必要的假设——D
