I think so. "There was" is wordy.

我查了一下关于 's所有格的用法
1.多数情况下，A's B结构中，A相当于主语，B相当于动词或宾语
eg: my father's car (=my father has a car) 2.A也可相当于动词的宾语，B相当于动词
eg: the prisoner's release (=sb. rleased the prison)
3.在一些其第一个词指一点或一段时间的表达方式中，'s所有格很常用
eg: yesterday's paper
an hour's delay 4.'s所有格结构在第一个名词是有生命的词语里最常见，在其他的情况下，我们常用of结构

the name of the street

即对称又符合语法。
