Two centuries ago, Tufe Peninsula became separated form the mainland, isolating on the newly formed Tufe Island a population of Turfil sunflowers. This population’s descendants grow to be, on average, 40 centimeters shorter than Turfil sunflowers found on the mainland. Tufe Island is significantly drier than Tufe Peninsula was. So the current average height of Tufe’s Turfil sunflowers is undoubtedly at least partially attributable to changes in Tufe’s environmental conditions.

文中我有一句话理解不了：Tufe Peninsula became separated form the mainland, isolating on the newly formed Tufe Island a population of Turfil sunflowers. 请问Tufe Peninsula 和 Tufe Island 不是同一个地方吗？？？为什么后面会说：Tufe Island is significantly drier than Tufe Peninsula was.

可否这样理解：当年Tufe Peninsula刚刚脱离大陆的时候，人种（Turfil sunflowers）是一样的（包括高度）。之后Tufe Peninsula形成了一个岛屿Tufe Island，那里的人们在这个新环境生活了两个世纪后人种特点与当时刚脱离大陆的人种有了身高上的区别。

喔~~~ 似乎有点明白了。。。。

那它文中后来那句：Tufe Island is significantly drier than Tufe Peninsula was。就是说独立后的Tufe Island 比原来还是Tufe Peninsula 更要干旱咯？而 Tufe Peninsula 原本是跟大陆连在一起的，所以在这里就代表了大陆的意思？
