53.The passage suggests which of the following about the workers who took temporary jobs during the 1980s?
a、Their jobs frequently led to permanent positions within firms.
b、They constituted a less demographically diverse group than has been suggested.
c、They were occasionally involved in actions organized by labor unions.
d、Their pay declined during the decade in comparison with the pay of permanent employees.
e、They did not necessarily prefer tmeporary employment to permanence emplyment.

本题答案是E。

但是我不理解书后面的解释：
the author says that the rise in temporary employment now far exceeds the level explainable by recent workforce entry rates of groups said to prefer temporary jobs. Thus, the number of workers employed on a temporary basis is far greater than the number of worker who actually do prefer temporary employment.
e:Correct. The passage indicates that the number of workers in temporary jobs was higher than the number of workers who stated a preference for tmeporary work.

不知道解释和e答案之间什么关系。还是我没有看到解释的意思？请哪位大大赐教一下，多谢。

一同探讨吧，这篇我也错不少 感觉关键是对“not necessarily”在“did not necessarily prefer"的理解，查了一下Longman:possibly, but not certainly.

作者想表达的意思是“在80年代，做临时工的女人有可能是主动（但不确定）去选择，或偏好做临时工的。”-因为数据显示了实际做的人数远远超过那些表示过该倾向的人。

换句话说，在这些做临时工的女人们中，只有部分人表示特愿意，特想做临时工-主动接受。剩下的不prefer或不表态，但生活所迫等等原因还是做了，所以作者用了很真确的didnot necessarily prefer涵盖了各种可能。

个人理解，仅供参考。

首先分析文章:

文章第一句:
some observers(some一词表明该观点一定会被文章反驳)把temporary employment的增长归因为certain groups的增长，并且用定语从句说明这些人supposedly prefer临时工作。

文章第二~三句：
however(用however表明此句反驳上句观点)，通过统计数据的分析来说明临时工作的增加是由于另外的factors.

由上可判断，选E

简单来说，就是：

文章第一句说,那些在1980s做临时工作的人应该prefer temporary employment。
随后该观点被文章反驳。

但是，为什么E选项是和permanent employment相比呢？

全文只提到temporary和permanent 这两种employment。

另外，prefer A to B中A是主要的，知道A更优就行。或当有“not necessary”修饰时，A并非更优就行。

我是用排除法选择出来的E.
看了解释之后,我理解的意思是因为实际做临时工的人数比那些prefer to temporaty jobs的人数要多,所以这其中肯定有一部分是不确定是否prefer temporary employment to permanent employment.

c哪错了？后面说union要组织好这些工人，不就是说之前她们很少involved吗
