Proposal:
Carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere block the escape of heat into space.
So emission of these “greenhouse” gases contributes to global warming.
In order to reduce global warming, emission of greenhouse gases needs to be reduced.
Therefore, the methane now emitted from open landfills should instead be burned to produce electricity.
Objection:
The burning of methane generates carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere.
Which of the following, if true, most adequately counters the objection made to the proposal?
A.
Every time a human being or other mammal exhales, there is some carbon dioxide released into the air.

这里说燃烧乙醇会产生二氧化碳，D答案明确了“乙醇的温室效应要比二氧化碳强”。 所以即使烧掉这些乙醇会往空气中排入二氧化碳排中也比不燃烧乙醇，直接让乙醇排入空气中好，证明objection 是错误的。

我也选c, 是不是因为methane燃烧肯定会产生co2, c选项与事实不符啊？

C错。 因为它只是支持了proposal，却没有反对objection.然而，题目要求的是能够反驳objection的论据。
obejection认为：“燃烧M会产生更多C，不利于减少温室效应”
而D选项说，不燃烧M比燃烧M更容易产生温室效应。
因此，D正确。

C选项里的that修饰的是fuel不是methane，就是说methane替代了一种更好的燃料，这种燃料不产生温室气体，这不就是说methane不好了么？
而题目是要反对objection，支持proposal，既说methane替代 Carbon dioxide是应该的，因此不能选C。
至于正确选项D，4楼说的比较明白，只是应该是甲烷，不是乙醇。
