The lawyer for the defense charged that she suspected the police of having illegally taped her confidential conversations with her client and then used the information obtained to find evidence supporting their murder charges.
我主要纠结在两个选项上：1) used the information they had obtained to find evidence that would support
2) of using the information they had obtained to find evidence that would support
答案选的第二个，我想知道这怎么认为是与of having...平行，而不是与taped...平行？

句子的逻辑意思是：律师指控她怀疑警察非法录音和使用信息。

"use"是和"tape"平行的，但是GMAT中要求表达准确。

如果按照1）这样写这样可能会造成歧义有，lawyer charged... and then used; she suspected... and then used。

怀疑某人做了A和B，根据suspect的用法，平行就是"suspect sb. of ing and of ing"。

"of using..."这样写，就不会有其他的歧义的可能，使得句子表达和逻辑上的意思吻合。

我并不确定，我的解释是1）的话，illegally的修饰范围就包括了后面的这句话，但是他在用这个information的时候并不是不合法的，只是他们取得该信息是不合法的，所以选2）

根据句子的信息，我判断不出use information这一段是不是合法的。因为句子没有告诉我。所以我无法从illegally的涵盖范围确定use的形式，而只能从逻辑意思，怀疑警察做了A和B，而不是别人，来判断。
