How effectively one learns in a classroom is determined more by the quality of other students than by the quality of the teacher. Agree or not?
主:other students more important than teachers
1.
Students are contemporaries with an equal level. Although some may be ahead of the others, the gap among them is quite narrow. The ways they look at the world are pretty much the same. Students could open heart to the high quality students. Thus, the communications of studies among students will be much ease and helpful.
2.
Peer influence: A front-runner could model learning for other students. In a fine learning atmosphere, students could make great efforts assiduously and study fervency very highly.
3.
Survey: explore the influences of peer-assisted learning strategy among students.
次:teachers are fundamental roles.
1.
High quality of teacher could meet different needs of students, giving the students what they pursue, imparting them knowledge, and resolving their problems.

To protect national security, the government should keep any information as they wish
8、3次
In interest of national security, governments should have access to their citizens' library checkout records and Internet activity records
There has been a growing concern about whether the government should be authorized to keep the information they wish.
主:
I think taking national security into consideration, government should have the right to access their citizens’ Internet Active history because although it is known that as a citizen, everyone should obey laws and regulations, some people still want to realize their goals by threatening national interests. Under such conditions, it is necessary for government to be authorized to prevent these people from doing harm to nation security.
1. Government has the responsibility to protect national security. The government represents the general will of most citizens and in a democratic society, obeying laws and regulations help citizens pursue their real interests. But if some individuals disobey laws to do harm to other ones or even national security, governments should be responsible for protecting nations and their citizens from harm.
2. A good example can be found in the case that international terrorists are more and more using the internet to communicate with other and broadcast some horrible information because the internet is open to everyone. Under such circumstances, to trace terrorists, it is obvious that certain government department should have rights to get access the history record of some people.
次:
Other aspects of citizen’s personal life, such as library checkout card, if not related to nation security, are not need to expose to the government.

34、 政府保密
It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public. [5]
反:
1. People have the right to know the truth. The more a government or the political leaders withhold information from the public, the more hostility the public advocated against the government. For example, information asymmetry of economy and nation security will result in even more serious panic from the citizens.
2. Sometimes the government withholds some information to prevent opponent opinions, while the different voices do not stand for the incompatible of a society. These different voices may give some constructive criticisms which will lead to better results.
正:
However, it is evitable for political leaders to withhold some information from the public. For example, when some people spread rumors to create trouble, government have the rights to withhold such information to stabilize the emotion of its people.

[v1] the surveillance cameras 监视摄像头are helpful for the police officials to identify and arrest someone who breaks the law.
[v2] 监视摄像头安装在城市街道上有助于law enforcement officials to identify the people who break the law.
[v3] using the cameras helps the laws enforcement officials in identifying and arresting the people who breaks the law.
正:
1. Cameras can record criminal process, the number of criminal and crime time. It is quite helpful for police officials to save time and improve accuracy when handling a case. Using the cameras in parking lot, building stairs or corridor and streets can play a key role in detering the potential criminal action.
2. Government has the responsibility to protect national security. if some individuals disobey laws to do harm to other ones or even national security, governments should be responsible for protecting their citizens from harm. In this way, cameras play an important role in protecting the security of the public.
反:
However, the use of surveillance cameras should be cautious because it may invade citizens’ privacy rights. Moreover, police officials should consider the balance between cost and effect of this action.

“It is unrealistic to expect individual nations to make, independently, the sacrifices necessary to conserve energy. International leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential if we expect to protect the world’s energy resources for future generations.”
1. Individual nations, like people, will act according to their short-term motives and self-interest. Without extensive actions among countries, no country will sacrifice its own interests when others do not. It is unfair, and it is hard to achieve. Furthermore, nations, like people, tend to rationalize their own self-serving policies and actions. Developing country may argue that developed country should make much more sacrifices since they use more sources and they can better afford to make it.
2. Resource issue is a global issue. Efforts of individual nations to solve the energy conservation would not work well. No individual country is able to do it independently.
3. The best and the most efficient way is that the whole world conserves the energy simultaneously and collectively. Only by this way of an international effort, have we made some progress.

“With the increasing emphasis on a global economy and international cooperation, people need to understand that their role as citizens of the world is more important than their role as citizens of a particular country.”(40)
正:
1. An increasing number of issues emerge today are global issues. We should consider these issues, such as environment and energy issues, in the role as citizens of the world other than the role as citizens of a particular country. People should be responsible for the whole world rather than a particular country.
2. Just being a good citizen in a country only solving the problem of his nation might shift the burden and threats to another nation. In the long-sight, we should realize that all the countries are interdependent.
总:
These two roles, national and international, are not mutually exclusive alternatives. They can be properly combined. Being a good citizen in one social context can often help one be a better citizen in another. For example, volunteering to help poor children who cannot go to school in one’s community might inspire one to work for an international child-welfare organization.

“All citizens should be required to perform a specified amount of public service. Such service would benefit not only the country as a whole but also the individual participants.”(34)
1. Mandatory social work would help solve “free-rider” problems. Extensive participation could draw people’s attention on social problems, such as education, public health and safety, and the environment. Without working hard on social works, people will not realize the importance of public services and treasure their achievements.
2. Public services might instill a sense of civic duty and individual responsibility into participants. It will enhance the connection with each other and spiritualize them.
3. Admittedly, absolute mandatory social work will stimulate the emotion of repellence among the public. When becoming a burden and stress to the participants, public services harm not only individual performers but also entire society.

“Everywhere, it seems, there are clear and positive signs that people are becoming more respectful of one another’s differences.”
正:
The increased globalization has provided more opportunities than ever before to contact and acknowledge cultures of other nations. People draw more tolerant attitude toward dissimilar culture, including religion and custom from other nations. For example, anti-discriminatory laws in the areas of employment, housing, and education, now protect all significant minority groups and women.
反:
However, discrimination and prejudice still remain severe despite of the legislation. For example, racial and sexual discrimination are still around us today. Even though laws stipulate that women receive the same amount when they do the same work as men do, unequal earnings of women still exist.
总:In sum, the claim that we are becoming more respectful of one another’s differences is somewhat true. But at the mean time, we need to make more efforts to eliminate discrimination and prejudice.

“The rise of multinational corporations is leading to global homogeneity*. Because people everywhere are beginning to want the same products and services, regional differences are rapidly disappearing.”
* homogeneity: sameness, similarity(65)
I agree that multinational corporations are indeed creating global sameness in consumer preferences.
正:
1. The development of multinational corporations does enhance global unity by bringing the same products and services as well as methods of business administration throughout the world. For instance, western fast food brought by global chain express such us McDonald’s and KFC have change our diet habits a lot.
2. Moreover, young people are crazily keen on the products of APPLE Inc., since these high-tech products are user friendly and extremely flexible. We can see some “star” brands, such as NIKE, COCA-COAL, nearly every corner of the world.
反:
however, the effect of multinational corporations is far from eliminating regional deference. The corporations itself is blend in the regional features. In order to attract local customers, multinational corporations do good to promote and incorporate the culture of the target country with their products and services.

Employees should keep their private lives and personal activities as separate as possible from the workplace.
主:
1. I agree with the author’s point of view towards the relationship between private life and work because bringing private life to workplaces has many bad effects on both the one who does so and people around him or her. Always thinking about one’s private life at work can distract one from his or her work. For example, a mother who worried about her child cannot efficiently focus on her task.
2. Talking about private life and doing personal activities at work can disturb other fellow workers. It may have potentially negative influences on the morale and productivity of the team.
次:
It is inevitable for a person to think about his or her private life and to do some personal activities at the workplace. Sometimes, integrating personal life with work might foster a corporate culture that helps everyone do a better job. For example, the mother who worried her child could focus on her job if someone share her worry and help her solve the problem.

“As technologies and the demand for certain services change, many workers will lose their jobs. The responsibility for those people to adjust to such change should belong to the individual worker, not to government or to business.”
While individuals have primary responsibility for learning new skills and finding work, both industry and government have some obligation to provide them the means of doing so.
1. I agree that individuals must assume primary responsibility for adjusting to job obsolescence. Especially since our educational system has been preparing us for it, we can keep up with the changes of the technologies and new direction of businesses. Further, only if we take actions, could we solve the problems substantially. Otherwise, people will become passive merely rely on the help coming from government or business.
2. Industry should bear some of the responsibility as well. It is industry, after all, that determines the particular directions technological progress and subsequent social change will take. Moreover in the long run, doing so will also benefit the business.
3. Government should also assume some of the responsibility. As the supervisor for the whole society, government should insure the well being of the society. It can provide some insurance for unemployment and give them advices for occupational choice.

Financial benefit should be the most important factor when choosing a career
正:
1. Admittedly, financial gain is an important factor in choosing a career. People face various spendings in daily life ,and money is the security.
反:
1. However, it does not mean that everyone should regard financial gain as the most important factor. After all, there are more factors play important roles in making job decisions, such as personal values, work environment, and corporate culture. For example, some people join the helping professions, such as nursing, teaching or social work. Although they may be not rich, they are happier than most of the contemporaries because such people gain happiness when they help the poor
2. Making money is not an end in the end of itself, but rather a means of obtaining material goods and services and of attaining important goals—such as providing security for oneself and one’s family, lifelong learning, or freedom to travel or to pursue hobbies.
总:In my opinion, the best career is the combination of special interests and financial benefits.

14、 员工 工作环境
“Since the physical work environment affects employee productivity and morale, the employees themselves should have the right to decide how their workplace is designed.”(68)
正:
1. Physical workspace can affect morale and productivity and that, as a result, employees should have a significant voice in how their work areas are designed. Style of office furniture, decoration of rooms, and even desk lighting can each play an important role in employees’ comfort and efficiency, bringing them creativity and coziness.
反:
1. However, design of workplace should dependent on the work character. Some specific workplaces must avoid too much decoration in order to appear professionally and dependably, such as government offices, audit firms and banks.
2. Moreover, the design of workplace should be compromise to company culture. To some creative work such as fashion design, the decorating of workplace is important not only for simulating inspirations but also for showing creative abilities. However, in an audit firm which culture is prudence, too much decoration will give clients an unprofessional impression.

正:
Admittedly, payments depend on a person’s ability. The more a person makes contributions to the society, the more he deserves. Technicists are usually paid more than common workers because they have professional knowledge and specialties.
反:
However, it is too arbitrary to say that pay just depends on his profession to the society. Profession is surely important but other aspects, such as the ability to solve problems, creativity and communication skills, are important still. It is unwise to evaluate one’s ability just depending on his profession. For example, a teacher, who has excellent teaching skills but lacks the ability of communication with students, will not give full play to his professional knowledge.

The company should protect employees from unfair treatments based on gender, race, and marital status. However, if a manager with a view of discrimination, he might treat certain employees unfairly.
2. Access to personal information without consent raises serious privacy concerns, especially where multiple individuals have access to the information. It will violate the right of the employee and lead to crime.

No one can possibly achieve any real and lasting success or ‘get rich’ in business by conforming to conventional practices or ways of thinking.(81)
正:
1. In many cases, merely conforming to conventional practices or way of thinking could not keep long-lasting success. In consumer-driven industries, innovation, product differentiation, and creativity are crucial to lasting success. For example, retail stores must catch the attention of consumers whenever since the consumers pursue innovative and different products.
2. As President Franklin Roosevelt said, “Growth and change are the law of all life”. Without innovation, business could not keep up with the development of the market.
反:
However, what I mentioned above does not mean that conventions have no value at all. A lot of business principles for financial achievement never change. For example, to make profit, pursuing efficiency and reducing cost is a golden rule. Moreover, as part of the society, company should carry some responsibility for the whole community.

38、2次 老员工,新员工
in today's high-paced world, the energy and new ideas of younger workers will benefit the employer more than the experience and wisdom of older workers do.
正:
1. As we all know, the word today is fast-paced. Younger employees are more suitable for this everyday’s improvement and revolution. They are quite creative and innovative than older workers. The energy and new ideas could meet the need of customers. Moreover, youthful spirit of young workers improves the morale of whole team, which is crucial to a company.
2. Although experience and wisdom older employees are important, they might be conservative and not likely to change their own styles to fit the goal of company. Management of older workers is much more difficult than management of younger workers.
反:
Different occupations have different criteria. For example, the older the doctor is, the more perfect his skills are. Younger doctors lack experience and wisdom. When faced with tough problems, older workers would play pivotal roles in helping company solve the problems.

39、环境 规则
“Scientists are continually redefining the standards for what is beneficial or harmful to the environment. Since these standards keep shifting, companies should resist changing their products and processes in response to each new recommendation until those recommendations become government regulations.”(42)
正:
1. The recommendations given by scientists are usually controversial or have inconsistent perspectives on same questions, thus cannot provide clear directions on actions that companies should adopt.
2. Changing products and processes too often will inevitably increase cost and lower productivity. Also, it is quite hard for the company to follow the standards which keep shifting all the time. Therefore, the profits of company will be decrease, while the condition of environment may not improve.
反:
However, just waiting for government regulations may draw back the processes of solving the problems. A great deal of environmental damage can occur before regulations are implemented.
总:A middle ground should be given. For example, government should make those recommendations from scientists to be regulations once a fewer years, such as every 5 years.

40、体育运动
Physical activity and sports are as important as education of academics
正:
1. Children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day for their health. Because children spend most of their time in school, physical activity encouraged in schools is important. Physical activity and sports provide children with an opportunity to exercise during the day. It gives children early exposure to team sports, and promotes good physical fitness. Children who participate in physical education can learn the importance of exercise as a lifelong habit.
2. Children who take physical activity and sports may be interested in joining a team work as well. Sports increase the awareness of health and the need to take care of the body. Sports also give kids a positive outlet for frustrations and energy, a place to make friends who are positive influences, and a place to be a leader so kids are less likely to succumb 屈服 to peer pressure.
反:
It is almost impossible for people who just have a strong and healthy body to get highly successful achievements. In other words, education of academic is a fundamental one which leads to people’s success.

41、 保护环境 责任
“Responsibility for preserving the natural environment ultimately belongs to each individual person, not to government.”(13)
正:
1. Admittedly, we share the nature source, which is our human being’s irreplaceable treasure. The condition of the environment may have directly effect on each person. Therefore, everyone has the obligation to protect the environment from being polluted.
反:
1. Experience tells us that individuals tend to act on behalf of their own short-term economic and political interest. To leave all the responsibility to individuals is hardly a wise decision. Without government’s regulation, few people will voluntarily make sacrifice to protect the environment.
2. Under many circumstance, the government has certain advantages in preserving the environment. For example, the government can place certain regulations on the wastes and pollutants towards environment emitted by industries.
总:
As far as I am concerned, the responsibility for preserving the natural environment ultimately belongs to each individual person, government and some other society organizations, not a simple one.
