He was also the lone dissenter in  a case decided a year ago when the Court stuck down a statute criminalizing the sale of videos depicting kittens being crushed to death by  the high-heeled “spike” shoes of a dominatrix.

my question:
2.kittens being crushed to death的being的用法合理吗?能用been吗?
many thanks.

being crushed to death:强调的是视频里动作的过程

being在这里强调视频上的kitten being crushed to death.
那第一个问题the sale of videos depicting kittens being crushed to death...

Sorry i have to use English because i can't type Chinese on this
PC.
sorry i didn't get it.    why did the author use "depicting" rather
than "that depict"?
for example, videos depict violence or videos depicting violence?  i
think both are fine, but i am not sure.
I think it is not for the same reason as why being is used. Being
defines the timing that when the video is on, the pictures are about
kittens being crushed to death; crushed to death happens at the same
time with pictures. however, videos depicting does not mean the
simultaneous happening of video and kittens been crushed, it only
defines what the video is about.
For instance, "the teacher gives the student a case study showing the
economic development in cities" and "the teacher gives the student a
case study (which) shows the economic development in cities" are both
ok i think. But the author seems prefer ing form here. Please clarify
if i am wrong.
