答案选A，有一个小问题：过去分词(surpassed)在句尾部不是应该修饰离它最近的名次吗? 难道它的修饰对象不是diabetes 而是leading cause of death?

surpassed 我感觉是过去分词作状语，修饰rank，逻辑主语是diabetes

貌似是当过去分词在巨末时，不论有没有逗号，都修饰就近的名词或词组吗？所以我觉得应该是修饰the nation's third leading cause of Death

同意LS 的观点，在GMAT 中，偏爱分词ed紧靠修饰对象，而且修饰就近紧靠的名词。请参照 OG 56 A/B/C选项答案和 OG 107 C/D/E 选项答案。不知道其他NN关于过去分词ed的句中位置有没有其他补充？

这里把Diabetes 和 nation's third leading cause of Death 看成一回事是不是能帮助理解呢

5和107，过去分词都做了修饰成分
而56却做了与DATE并列的MAIN VERB

如果判断是做修饰成分还是当MAIN VERB 呢？
