Hey there! This approach of having baby most likely wont work; after all, plenty of students will attend schools before, during, and after their wives have had babies. J So even if you were to prove it, they would likely not agree to your approach.
Typically, the best reasons to defer are job-related. We have had a great deal of success, for example, making the following argument: “I just received an incredible job offer, and it will give me amazing experience. After one year of working at this job, I will have so much MORE to offer to your school. Please allow me to pursue this opportunity, since it will make me such a better candidate.” Those are the arguments in which we have been the most successful. After all, the adcom will wonder about the baby, “But raising a child in a school environment would be so GOOD, not so bad…”
Good luck, and congratulations on the child!
