标题: 学校要求申请人写英文推荐信, 不能翻译。 [打印本页]

这个情况估计碰到的人不多。我的推荐人,也是我的前supervisor, 打算写中文的,然后再翻译。60年代的人,基本没怎么学过英语,看简单的英文可以,写英文推荐信真是不太可能。但询问学校,说要选择能写英文的推荐人,翻译的不行。

这种情况我该怎么选呢,是向学校隐瞒他不会写英文,直接用翻译的提交,这样是不是容易在背景调查时出问题;还是换一个推荐人呢,我只能换成以前的同事,是不是没有supervisor好呢?

请大家指教

COLUMBIA的官方说法是,可以用他们指定的翻译机构翻译。

我问的是duke, 压根就不允许翻译, 该怎么办呢

Hey there.  Of course schools don’t want this guy to have his LOR translated.  But lets be reasonable here for a second—he does speak SOME English, right?  So you would just say, were you to be caught, that you gave him the LOR and he wrote it.  Whether he translated it or not, you don’t know!  After all, you will check the box that indicates that you didn’t even read the thing.  So if he is your best LOR, have him write it, and have him have it translated.  You wouldn’t have to have aaaanything to do with it.  He takes care of it for you.  And this way, you don’t even have to lie.  Your LOR writer does all the work for you.  J  Easy, right?
