正确答案是D，我没问题，但有个地方不明白，turned away from literary realism to write romantic stories不对称啊。怎么可能turned away from sth to do sth呢？

有可能是turned away from sth to do sth
我知道turn away from sth是厌恶某东西，也许这里不是from to的搭配
可能是由于厌恶了...转而开始做...
完全是逆推得，不确定

D项的 in 1909确实很奇怪，所以是争议题嘛。但是别的选项更不对，所以排除完之后就剩D了

in 1909是时间状语，可以认为是副词，放在动词become后面修饰动词是可以的
