The Marketing faculty at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School), which has long been known for its academic excellence, has received further recognition of its standing as a worldwide leader in marketing research.
Research by the Marketing Department is ranked No. 3 in the list of the top 100 business schools across the world in 2009-10, according to research rankings produced by the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). The ranking list is based on publications in the top three marketing journals (the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Consumer Research and Marketing Science). At global top 3, the HKUST Marketing group ranks ahead of departments at other renowned institutions including Wharton and Stanford (see the list of top 10 schools below). The full list of top 100 business schools features 77 schools from North America, 11 from Europe, 1 from Africa and 11 from Asia.
The quantity and quality of the HKUST Marketing group’s research has been of a consistently high caliber and has been ranked in the top 10 of the UTD survey for a ten-year period from 2001. This year’s impressive move into the top 3 is further endorsement of the excellence of its faculty, who came from top business schools worldwide.
Prof Leonard Cheng, Dean of HKUST Business School, said: “The high ranking is a well-deserved testament to our strengths in research. I am thankful to our Marketing faculty members for their accomplishments in research and dedication to excellence.”
Prof Jaideep Sengupta, Head of Marketing, said: “We are pleased to be ranked among the best in the world. As Asia moves on from a manufacturing to a marketing mindset, research in marketing has become even more relevant for the region. Our department will continue its efforts to produce and disseminate knowledge that makes an intellectual impact.”
The Marketing Department holds a keynote annual research activity Marketing Camp every December. The event attracts renowned faculty from all over the world. The Camp fosters a highly stimulating intellectual environment, encouraging a mutual sharing of research ideas and knowledge between the visiting professors and the HKUST Marketing group. The event is supported by the Center for Marketing and Supply Chain Management, which was established in 2005 with the generous support of the Fung Foundation Ltd.
