The constructivists gain acceptance by misrepresenting technological determinism: technological determinists are supposed to believe, for example, that machinery imposes appropriate forms of order on society. The alternative to constructivism, in other words, is to view technology as existing outside society, capable of directly influencing skills and work organization.
小弟对这段话有些不太明白,are supposed to believe 说明是social constructive 错误理解的 technological determinism ,但为啥又说 imposes ~~~forms of order on society ?
technological determinist are supposed to believe.... that machinery imposes appropriate forms of order on society. ( this means the standpoint of the technological determinist). this sentence represents the determinist' view,( not the constructivists' ), which they believe machinery actually does something on society.
the alternative to constructivism......( the alternative here means that the constructivists promote their own views as a misrepresentation of determinist' views), so the last sentence actually represents the view of constructivists, they believe that technology is out exist of society.
this paragraph contrasts with the two different views between determinist and constructivism, pointing out what is the misrepresenting technological determinism has on constructivists.

这是og12中一篇阅读的一段,对应的是第126题:
The author of the passage uses the expression “are supposed to” in line 27 primarily in order to
(A) suggest that a contention made by constructivists regarding determinists is inaccurate
(B) defi ne the generally accepted position of determinists regarding the implementation of technology
yesterday i responded u that the " technological determinists are suppose to believe...." is the view of determinists, this is wrong, that is why u think that according to my understanding for you, B is the right answer. sorry about that
" the constructivists gain acceptance by misrepresenting technological determinism...." this is a claim, follows this claim is an example that the constructivists assume "that the technological determinists are suppose to believe...." i think in answering Q 126, the key words for us to better understand the question is " suppose to", it indicates that this is not the view of determinists, but rather constructivists. in other words, constructivists shape this view in their own way about what determinists believe,. they never touch the real ( correct) view of determinists, they just assume determinists think like that.
about the " alternative to constructivism", this suggesting that constructivists promoted their own view by contrasting it with a misrepresentation of determinists' view ( technological determinists are suppose to believe ....)
because constructivists misunderstand the view by gaining acceptance, A is the right answer, misrepresenting means inaccurate.
hope this helps, thanks.
