Which of the following most logically completes the passage?

Concerned about the financial well-being of its elderly citizens, the government of Runagia decided two years ago to increase by 20 percent the government-provided pension paid to all Runagians over 65.Inflation in the intervening period has been negligible, and the increase has been duly received by all eligible Runagians.Nevertheless, many of them are no better off financially than they were before the increase, in large part because __________.

这道题本人觉得应该选C，但是答案是E，征求大家的看法。。。。

我觉得是E啊，C是无关选项。E说明光靠退休金是不够的嘛，要过舒适的生活还要儿女给老人补差价，那现在pension增加，子女补贴老人的就少些呗，老人拿到钱的总数又不变

不确定，反正考试的时候我估计会惯性的选择C。

这题跟以前的不同之处在于，题干明确表示通货膨胀因素不予考虑，所有货物涨价不能跟通货膨胀比，只能跟20%比才有意义。

E的意思是不是老头们以前靠孩子养活，钱不能给多，最多达到维持一般生活标准；现在养老金多了点，还是只能维持一般生活标准，隐含条件是老头们养老金多了点，但是现在的钱还是不够自立，不够达到一般生活标准，还得靠孩子养。所以现在的生活水准还是一般生活标准。

为啥20%就不能超过孩子们供给老头的比例呢？超过20%的话就不能成为老头生活没改善的原因了，但是我没觉得E这句话的意思是说孩子们的支持占据了老头们收入的大部分啊。

文中不是说了inflation可以忽略不计么

补的要说明为什么 many of them are no better off financially than they were

before the increase。D只说穷人多，他们收到更高的退休金后，收入当然会比以前高一些。

所以不能说明为什么题干有这个结论。

E 就是说，如果长者退休金提高了以后，他们孩子就减低了对他们的补助。那他们的收入自然

没有提高
c是他买的货物通货膨胀但是不一定就no better off了
这个是最权威的a大说的我引用的~

原文说Inflation in the intervening period has been negligible 就是inflation的因素剔除掉了 c再说这个因素就是不必要的了

这道题，我想了一下觉得应该这样解释比较好

E. In Runagia children typically supplement the income of elderly parents, but only by enough to provide them with a comfortable living

E的前半句话指出了，在Runagia，小孩是老人收入来源的主要提供者。后半句话指出了，小孩对老人的资助仅仅以提供一套舒适的房子为限。就是说，孩子对老人的补助=一套房子-养老金。所以，养老金虽然提高了，可是相应的，孩子的资助就会减少了，孩子最老人的资助目标是固定的。

本题的问题是many of them are no better off financially than they were before the increase, in large part because ________.
这样E就可以解释，为什么养老金提高了，老人还是觉得财务状况没有改善。

C选项，因为题目中给出了不考虑inflation的信息，所以是错误的。
