D选项没有语法错误，句意也通顺。OG解释说D中and的引入造成了在很多强调老挝人都住在难以接近的地方因而错了，E是正确的。
我能理解这里的意思，但是我的问题是：在考GMAT SC时，我们怎么判断E就是作者想表达的意思而D不是？

Actually, D) compares "land area" with "size of Great Britain"; therefore it is incorrect. The elements being compared must be logically and structurally paralleled.

同意楼上的解释，d选项比较的都不对称。这道题出做时我也错了，没仔细看题。不过比较是我的弱项。呵呵

理解了。谢谢。不过OG上没提到这个，可能是认为前几个选项中已经解释过该考点了。

我的理解是：E中的结构更利于句子意思的理解，Laos has a land area *****, and a population of ****,这样的结构更利于理解，看来GMAC中句子逻辑和结构是第一位，太过于抠语法细节可能不大利于做题

同意LZ 的观点，从句的 laos has 和主句一样省略，所以从句的主要强调是有400 万人

口（主干重心），然后在补充提到人口还有许多在山区（次要修饰作用）。。
