Round 2 / Adcom / On-campus (Published January 21st, 2010)
I interviewed with a member of the Adcom and it was pretty straightforward. I was told by the interviewer directly that the only information he had on me was my resume (blind interview):
Walk me through your resume
Why MBA / why UNC
Talk me through your collegiate experience
If I left my current job today, greatest legacy from my work
Short and long-term goals career-wise
The interview was about 40 minutes long and the team at the Adcom office was very nice. The interview had a very conversational feel. Hopefully he thought it went as well as I thought it did! Good luck to everyone.
Round 2 / Alumnus / Off-campus (Published January 1st, 2010)
My UNC-KF interview was a blind interview with an alumnus in Mumbai on December 12, 2009. I was given an option to choose my interview date and location. The interview was on a weekend at a coffee shop. The alumnus was a little more casual than I expected and so I kind of felt a little over dressed, even when I was not wearing a full suit but only business formals with a tie.
There were no questions related to my professional background stated in my resume. He started with asking about my personal background and some questions on my undergraduate years. Like where did I finish my engineering, which stream and how was my academic record.
Then came:
Why UNC-KF?
Which other business schools are on my list and Why?
How will you fund your education at UNC-KF (as it is very expensive for someone like me)? There was a good discussion on this one.
Questions on some of my personal interests/activities listed in my resume. I guess, one of my activity is a little uncommon as I have always and always faced questions on it. And more specifically Why this activity?
In between, while I was answering his questions, he talked about his similar experiences and reasons. Like the fee structure in his time was just 1/4th of what I will be paying, how he found it difficult to get a job or internship as he passed out during the dot com bubble and how he managed to get a job in India directly after his MBA. I asked him about two questions and he answered to the best of his knowledge.
All in all, it was more of a conversation that lasted for about 30 mins and I feel I could have said a lot more about myself that I actually did. But I guess I need more practice
Round 3 / Adcom / On-campus (Published February 16th, 2009)
I interviewed on campus on January 27, 2009.
The interview was conducted with, Donna, a member of the Admissions Committee in their offices. We spoke for a little longer than the stated 30 minutes, and it was very conversational. Some questions included:
Walk me through your resume.
Your GPA seems low. Are there any extenuating circumstances or explanations for that?
Why are you interested in getting your MBA?
She seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me as a person and finding common ground, and often something I would say would spark her interest and we would discuss some aspect of my background or the opportunities at Kenan Flagler. The rest of our time was spent discussing issues that we were both passionate about and discussing the trajectory of change and opportunities at Kenan Flagler.
Following the interview, I was met with students in the Admissions Office waiting area, and given a tour, lunch, and hosted class visit. Everything was taken care of and went smoothly. I got to speak one-on-one with about 6 students and learn about their experiences at Kenan Flagler. A resounding theme is leadership development, and overwhelming opportunities to learn at all times of the day, every day.
Round 2 / Phone Interview (Published February 11th, 2009)
Interview was very conversational. It started off with the interviewer introducing himself. It was more like the interviewer was going through my resume and asking me for clarifications/elaborations.
One question he stressed upon was:
What would you do at UNC? and
What do you want to do post-MBA?
We then discussed a lot of light topics (including Slumdog Millionaire).
Overall, it was a good experience though I feel I could have done better.
Round 2 / Ed Davis, Admissions Committee / Phone Interview, Jan 9, 2009 (Published January 14th, 2009)
First off, the interviewer had my resume, but nothing else from my complete application package. This way, he was blind to my GMAT scores, GPA, and essays, for better or worse. I appreciated that this prevented us from making assumptions when we spoke (I was able to use talking points brought up in my essays).
The interview began with Ed introducing himself while I mentally prepared for his questions. He discussed how he and many other KF staff came from successful business careers to be a part of the program. Then, rather than the standard, "walk me through your resume," he simply asked me about my current job and company. I am from an atypical industry (wildlife biologist with an environmental consulting firm) and it made sense to give some details about it.
Then:
Why do you want an MBA and why Kenan-Flagler?
What are you interested in focusing on while in b-school?
What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?
Any questions?
The interview was very conversational and relaxed. I don't know if it was that Ed is a great interviewer or if the interview just went well, but it certainly did not feel like the Q&A session I was expecting.
Round 2 / Adcom / Phone Interview (Published November 12th, 2008)
I had an interview with Ed Davis on November 11th.
Ed began by giving me a run down of his background and how he came to work with Kenan Flagler
Questions
Walk me through your resume?
Why do you want to get an MBA?
Why an MBA from Kenan Flagler?
What qualities do you hope to develop during your MBA?
What do you plan to do after your MBA?
The only other question outside the standard interview questions was specifically about my membership in Slow Food USA, an organization that I am a member of. He actually started off the interview asking me about my interest in this group and how my background (being raised on a farm) applied to this.
Round 4 / Adcom (Published March 11th, 2008)
I had an admissions interview with Craig Heckert in February 2008. It was a standard interview with the normal MBA question:
Walk me through your resume
Why do you want to get an MBA
What are your career goals
Why UNC
How will you contribute
He did ask me one question that threw me a bit "why do we need another CPA?"
Other questions:
Who is responsible for the current credit crisis
What is the most creative thing you have ever done
Tell me something about yourself that is not on your resume
After Craig asked all the prepared question he asked if I had any questions. We talked for several minutes about some topics I had prepared through my research. Overall, Craig was nice and friendly and made the interview feel relaxed.
UNC Interview (Published January 4, 2008)
Walk me through your Resume?
Describe Yourself?
What do you think about Reliance Industries and its owner Mukesh Ambani? I have read in the news paper that he gave a $60m jet as a gift to his wife and is also building a $1B house in India. If given an opportunity would you join that company?
Why UNC?
Do you read novels?
What concentration you want to pursue at UNC?
Are you happy with the companies you have worked with?
What companies you are targeting after your MBA?
What is the biggest challenge in front of India in its growth?
Interview with Adcom member (Published Fall 2005)
I had an interview with Buck William, a member of Adcom team of UNC, the interview was extremely friendly and relaxing. He really made a lots of efforts to put me at easy and make me comfortable, which I think a bit more than needed!
He started by talking to me about Philippines because 46 years ago, he had a great time in Mindanao (the south of the Philippines) and Manila. So we chatted and we shared a lot about Philippines. Then he asked me how my life is in Philippines and how I grew up in Vietnam. A bit also about my family.
Next question is about my education. Why I held two BA degrees from two universities and how I managed to obtain both at the same time. What extra-curricular activities I did when I was in university as well as I performed academically.
Going to my experience. He also shared that he used to work in agency that served my company now, a multinational FMCG company, he served my brand actually. So it was really a friendly chat. However he did ask me about my work nature. and one specific question relating to market research and distribution.
The last question was that Who am I? this is the question sounding "interviewed" the most. and then I asked him a couple of questions about UNC. That is all.
It is really a nice chat with him and I feel so relaxed talking to him. Admitted.
October 3, 2005 / Early Action / Adcom (Published October 2005)
My interview with Kenan-Flagler occurred on October 3, 2005. I applied in the Early Action round. The interview was preceded by sitting in on a microeconomics class. Also, I had lunch with the other prospective applicants (I believe there were about 7 other applicants there) and 4 current students, and was given a tour of the building.
I arrived at 9:20, and met Barbara Ann in the admissions office. She was very nice and introduced me to Leo, the student who was taking me to the class I was to sit in on. The classroom was crowded with about 40 students, but there were still empty seats once class started at 9:30. The professor was engaging, and asked me to introduce myself. After the introduction, he started the case study analysis the class was having that day. Leo had an extra set of the notes available so I could at least attempt to follow along. Class ended at about 10:45.
I was lead back to the admissions office and waited for my interview to begin. Barbara Ann was very nice and tried to help me stay nice and calm before the interview. Right at 11:00, Craig Heckert who is an Assistant Director of Admissions came out to greet me. He was pleasant and led me to his office where the interview occurred. There was no one else in the room besides the two of us. He was polite and firm, but was not overly personable. Most of the questions were standard, such as:
Why Kenan Flagler?
Why do you want to get your MBA?
Why now?
What are your goals?
Couple of adjectives to describe yourself?
The only question that threw me off, and I can’t remember exactly how it was worded concerned Martha Stewart and Enron.
The interview lasted about 40 minutes. Around 12:15 we were taken to the cafeteria with 4 current students and just talked. The students were very open and candid. The cafeteria was pretty loud as it appeared everyone was there. Lunch was a box lunch provided by Panera Bread. Two current students gave us a tour of the building after lunch. They also answered any other questions we had. By that time though, there weren’t that many questions though. I was back on the road by 2:00.
Round 2, Adcom (Published January 17, 2005)
My interview at Kenan-Flagler occurred in mid-November on campus. I visited a core marketing class with a current student. Following class, I went to lunch with current and prospective students and took a tour of the school.
I arrived at 10:30 a.m. and met a student for an 11 a.m. class. The office was very attentive and all the student guides showed up on time. The marketing class was full (around 70 students) and the professor kept the discussion on pricing engaging and fast-paced. After class, I returned to the admissions office and met up with a group heading to lunch. At lunch, I had the chance to ask current students all about life at KF and the culture of the school. I also learned about some specific student experiences that helped me in the interview. A campus tour followed lunch with yet another volunteer student who provided another perspective of campus life and was very informative. I returned to admissions office shortly before my scheduled interview. Right on time, Donna Bauman fetched me from the waiting area for the interview in her office. The interview lasted about 60 minutes and was very comfortable. I stressed how important it had been for me to visit campus and get a good sense of the student body and culture. The interview was basic and covered the following areas:
Background and walking through my resume
Why KF and why now
Examples of leadership
Any questions I had about KF

让我比较郁闷的一点是,她直接告诉我没有看过我的essay(essay是另外一位adm officer看得),只有简历在手。
3、short/long term goal
4、 why mba, why now
6、what can you share with others in international group study?
7、what's your question about UNC, KFBS, consulting.....
3,career goal
UNC- Alumni@ SH (我选的是Joe,30多岁的一个帅哥)
UNC Phone Interview - 2.9
1. Walk me thru your resume, highlight ur achievements and potential contribution to UNC
2. Why MBA
3. Why UNC (I talked about my experience corresponding with a school amdassador, and the interviewer got very excited... She spent the next 3-5 mins sharing with me how nice and open-minded people at UNC are)
4. A frustrating leadership experience
5. Questions
小弟今天在UNC campus interview 見了Peggy, assistant director of admission.
1) Tell me something about yourself?
2) Tell me an accomplishment in one of your positions?
3) What is most important to you outside of work?
4) Why Kenan Flagler?
5) Anything that's not on resume that you want to let me know?
6) Any question for Kenan Flagler?
7) Your goal post MBA (She asked indirectly.)
8) Why did you study this major in college? (She asked indirectly.)

UNC Alumni interview
1. talk about yourself 我在这里基本上就go through resume了。
4。Why UNC
UNC phone interview
接下来就谈到why MBA, why now, why KFBS.
UNC Phone Interview
1. Education
2. Professional Backgrounds
3. Why MBA
4. Why UNC
5. How do you peers describe you?
6. Community Contribution
7. Team Experience
8. How do you see yourself in the next 5-10 years
。。所以大家还是go through your resume才是王道阿~
4.round 1
interview tips for UNC (from Jay)
I received the early round interview invitation and will have an interview with Ariel Navarro 28th this month in HK. it will be much better if I know more about KFBS program before the interview. do you mind my asking you several questions to get some insider information?
1. I know that KFBS has the Leadership Initiatives after new Dean came. can you share with me some events / new concept about the leadership development program currently undertaken?
2. KFBS has renowned International program such as the Global Immersion Electives, what's your feeling about the international aspect of your MBA experience in KFBS? are there any other international course setting appealing to you?
3. as a KFBS MBA students, what do you (and your schoolmates) feel the most proud of?
Glad to know you’ll be interviewing for the full time MBA program at Kenan-Flagler. I put my answers to your questions below.
1. I know that KFBS has the Leadership Initiatives after new Dean came. can you share with me some events / new concept about the leadership development program currently undertaken?
There are lots of things going on related to leadership initiatives at Kenan-Flagler, including presentations by senior execs from well known companies talking about their lessons throughout their careers, managerial simulations, mentoring with leadership coaches, etc. You earn points from different sessions and 10 points earn you a leadership credit which is required for your graduation. Also, during your second year, you have the option to take a leadership immersion course when you’ll have the opportunity to practice your leadership skills in some real world settings.
2. KFBS has renowned International program such as the Global Immersion Electives, what's your feeling about the international aspect of your MBA experience in KFBS? are there any other international course setting appealing to you?
There are lots of international programs offered at Kenan-Flagler, including Global Immersion Electives (GIE), Global Business Projects (GBP), Working Languages, Doing Business in (Country), etc., in additional to short term and long term exchange programs to partner schools around the world. I did a GBP to China during my first year and it was a great experience for me. Not only did I have the chance to apply what I learned in classes to a real world consulting project, I also had a better understanding of the business environment in China through working on this project since I’ve been virtually away from China for quite a long time.
3. as a KFBS MBA students, what do you (and your schoolmates) feel the most proud of?
UNC Kenan-Flagler has a relatively small student body, which means each student gets more attention from faculty members and other students. All the faculty members are really great, and they are accessible to students when students need them for whatever topics they are interested in. The cutting-edge learning facilities here are also among the best in the country. In short, I think it’s the people and culture here that really make a difference.
In terms of general advice for your upcoming interview, I would say be very familiar with what you wrote in your essays (such as why MBA, why Kenan-Flagler, what you can contribute to the school, what your short term and long term career goals are, etc.). Also think of your experience so far, where you showed your leadership, what were some of the challenges for you and how you addressed them. I think these are all common questions, nothing really special. So be relaxed, and be yourself. Hope this helps, and feel free to let me know if you have any other specific questions.
Good luck,
Jay

Buck Williams
WHY? because they do not apply "one child policy"...
也简单问了些 why KF, what will you do 之类的问题,但提到的都不多
1. tell me about your working experience with every company you have been with and the achievements or the most proud parts.
2. career
goal and why MBA
3. why UNC
4. strength& weakness
5. any questions(偶问了2个问题)
Good luck to you all with your interviews!
UNC Kennan Flagler
1. Brief introduce your intern and work experience.
2. why you go to us for an MBA study?
3. what are the aspects you will consider when you choose MBA program? How kennan Flagler fit your choice?
4. I saw xxx in your resume, what kind of achievement you made? What kind of leadership skills you obtained?
5. Any questions for me?
1)go through resume,
If you have a journey to school, remember to say Hi to me........

。。 。anyway。
。很好。。一句俗话说什么“A good interviewer will make you go home with a feeling that you have done well”。
cross my finger and wait~~~
***********
go through resume
为什么MBA,
为什么kenan-flagler
career goal
what sets kenan flagler apparts from other school
student job search
6. Why MBA, Why now?
7. Why UNC?
UNC phone interview experience
Just finished the phone interview with UNC adcom. Not a typical style from 'why MBA'...... Went through your resume and asked questions
1. Where were you born and why chose undergraduate major?
2. First job experiences sharing after graduation
3. Current job experiences sharing.
4. Leardership experiences in current job
5. Teamwork in current job
6. Who you wanna be in 5 years? 30 years?
7. Why KFBS?
8. Questions about KFBS
UNC on-campus interview
Just finished the interveiew with Buck Williams, a very nice old man. The interview lasted for half an hour, all conversational, no hard questions.
Here are some that I can remember: How do you describe yourself? How many people are in your company? How is your company doing with the economy slowing down? Tell me your main responsibilities at work. What do you like to do on weekend?
He said good things about Chinese student here. He even showed me a "MBA Year Book", which he circled out every students he interviewed and made to UNC.
I'm going to the Corporate Finance class now. Hope I don't fall asleep this time.
In @ UNC (补上之前不起眼的面筋)
Shao Jia:
Elynn:thank you for being there~
问了常规问题,why UNC,why MBA,career plan,how would you describe yourself
1. Why MBA
2. Why UNC
3. What can bring to UNC
3. Leadership and teamwork experience
4. Use 3 words to discribe yourself
5. Most challenging thing
6. extra-activity
7. My clearest choice.
8. What do you think the most problem of China.
9. Something I want to illustrate but not listed in Resume.
10. Question to him.
