地理位置
罗彻斯特大学（University of Rochester）创建于1850年，位于纽约州 (New York State) 西部，安大略湖(Lake Ontario) 旁工业城市罗彻斯特 (City of Rochester)。罗彻斯特市距离纽约市约五小时，美加边境的尼加拉瓜瀑布 (Niagara Falls) 约一个半小时，加拿大的多伦多市约三小时的车程。国际知名的柯达 (Kodak)、全录 (Xerox)、以及博士伦 (Bausch & Lomb) 等公司总部均在罗彻斯特市。Rochester因为早期盛产鲜花，因此被称为“花城”，如今为纽约洲第3大城市。

名称由来
William E.Simon，曾经在任的财政部长（福特和尼克松时期的美国财政部长）的精神长存于西蒙商学院。在这里，Simon的关于自由市场能给商务问题以最好的解决方的观点被如信条一样传输给学生。他认为：每一个商务决定，不论它涉及到finance，marketing, organizational behavior或opertions,都可以用微观经济学(micro economics)来解释，这一思想已渗透到学校的每一门课中去了。除了芝加哥大学，没有哪一所商学院更坚持自由市场，或价值理论。
