The following appeared as part of a promotional campaign to sell advertising space in the Daily Gazette to grocery stores in the Marston area.
“Advertising the reduced price of selected grocery items in the Daily Gazette will help you increase your sales. Consider the results of a study conducted last month. Thirty sale items from a store in downtown Marston were advertised in the Gazette for four days. Each time one or more of the 30 items was purchased, clerks asked whether the shopper had read the ad. Two-thirds of the 200 shoppers asked answered in the affirmative. Furthermore, more than half the customers who answered in the affirmative spent over $100 at the store.”
Discuss how well reasoned... etc.

The conclusion of the argument is that advertising in the Daily Gazette will help to increase the sales of selected grocery items of the stores. To support his conclusion, the editorial indicates that among the surveyed 200 customers, two-thirds were shopped after having read the ads. What's more, more than half of the customers who were included in the study spent over $100 at the store. At first glance, the author's argument appears to be somewhat convincing, but further reflection reveals that it omits some important concerns that should be addressed to substantiate the argument.

In the first place, the editorial fails to establish the relationship between the increased sales of the groceries stores and the ads that the stores did in the Daily Gazette. The increased sales may be attributed to other factors such as the free bus for the nearby customers, the high quality of the items etc. Moreover, the increased sales during the four days can be attributed to the holiday factor that let people buy more. All the other factors can also be established to support the increased sales besides the advertisement in the Daily Gazette. So the only reason that the ads lead the increased sales is not enough to support the idea.

What's more, the results of the study cannot fully support the conclusion. Because the customers who come after reading the ads for shopping may not be attracted by the ads but have other reasons such as the convenient transportation to get to the store ,the high quality and new products that the other stores do not have. There are some other reasons may let the purchasers come to the store. So to support the argument, the editorial should consider other factors, which will help to increase the sale of the grocery stores.

To sum up, the editorial's conclusion that the adverting the reduced price of selected grocery items in the Daily Gazette is not sufficient. Because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lead strong support to what the argument maintains. There are still be other factors, which are stated above, to support the success. So to support conclusion which is stated by the editorial, the other factors such as the holiday thing should me added, thus making it more through and logically acceptable.
