我看过以前的讨论，好像都没有定论。

有种说法是：wisdom (that predicted processes of modernization and rationalization) would gradually undermine it，但是这样的话，country to（介词短语）怎么能接一个完整的句子？

country to没有接句子，接的是the scholarly wisdom 这个名词，that从句修饰wisdom
