(B) in order for them not to have direct competition with
(C) so that they do not compete directly with
(D) in order that they are not directly competitive against
(E) for the purpose of not competing directly with

这题也我凭感觉觉得选C，回头看看觉得不对，C这里的THEY指示不清楚啊，同样的

问题在于B和D，因此我选了E。请教，E那里错？C指代没问题吗？？

C中的THEY指代主句的主语，并无指示不清的嫌疑。
E中的表达一是没有C有效；二是for the purpose of 后面的成份太长了吧？
for the purpose of not competing directly with department stores in the same trading area.
还请高手指教！

they优先指代主语，这个能理解，就是说不管后面出现多少复数名词，再这里THEY逻辑上

就是指代主语，对吗？？

so that表结果，for 表目的，根据题意so that更好

感谢指点，我明白了。我还有个想法：要从整体的句意上看，Factory outlet stores如何能有purpose呢？不知道对不对?

for和purpose重复，

如果是with the purpose不知是否正确？

for the purpose of STH 有这种表达方式，但是后面是跟STH，E项可能是如风化绝代的GEMJ美女所说FOR后面跟的太多了。另外我觉得别的选项还有关于competitive的错误，competitive是竞争性的，有竞争力的意思，后面一般跟介词WITH。请NN指导
