我的问题：would more than double 中的double是动词？more than double又是什么意思呢？

还有，"personal spending" 怎么会double "the 1.4 percent growth rate"呢？这句话应该怎样理解啊？

OG对D选项的解释：altough this option is not technically wrong, it is less clear and graceful than B. 这样的话，that of又是指的什么呢？

AD中的that of，如果that就近指代personal spending，就变成personal spending of the 1.41% grouth rate in personal spending，显然句子很臃肿描述不清晰如果指代主句主语retail sales，不合逻辑因为题目比的是上个季度的personal spending跟这个季度的personal spending 所以排除AD 答案选B

double就是翻倍的意思啊 B选项应该就是说这个季度personal spending 把上个季度的personal spending (上个季度的personal spending 比上上个季度的personal spending 增加了1.4%）翻了一倍

应该是这么理解的不过觉得B选项也有不好的地方我觉得应该是这个季度的 personal spending的growth rate 跟上个季度的rate比这样比较清晰这里似乎是在拿 personal spending 与上一年的rate在比觉得不太妥当。。。不过比起别的项还是B最好的

我就觉得这题怪怪的，不明白为什么前面是spending后面是rate。原来如此啊！

再问一下，double是动词的话那more than是修饰double的副词？意思是翻了一倍还要多？

同样D中，只是由于expectations of使得其后面的内容不能是主谓结构，从而spending后面只能用现在分词来限定

但偶觉得D中的that不能指代expectations和retail sales，those才可以呀

that (of the 1.4 percent growth rate) in personal spending for the previous quarter中的of相当于adj定于限定that，当然这种n+(of+n)的结构远不如adj+n>n+that定从

个人观点楼主参考下。。。

我也是这么想的虽然选了B 但我觉得明明就是一个不同类的比较啊！！！谁能解惑？为什么这里spending可以和rate比？是一种特殊用法还是省略？

现在再来看这题觉得是这样的：expectations后跟同位语从句，解释说明expectations的内容。像楼主所说，从句that personal spending in the July-September quarter would more than double the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter是普通主谓宾结构而不是比较结构。

其中主语：personal spending；谓语：would double（would后面并没有be，所以真正的谓语动词应该是double）；宾语：1.4 percent growth rate 大意是说7-9月季度的个人开销将使上季度个人开销的1.4%的增长率翻一倍还多。注意，这里more than是副词短语，修饰谓语动词double，有“不止...”的意思，而不是我们常接触到的比较结构。

所以personal spending和growth rate并不是两个比较对象，不需要概念对等；它们只是动作发出者和承受者的关系。整个从句可以用被动语态表达：the 1.4 percent growth rate in personal spending for the previous quarter would be more than doubled by personal spending in the July-September quarter.
