这道题我选的是C选项，正确答案是E。
白大侠对C的解释是形容词短语14% higher than ...就近修饰$167billion,逻辑意思不合理，但他在解释E答案是说an amount用作$167billion的同位结构。所以我觉得14% higher than就近修饰$167billion可以啊？我选择它的一个重要理由就在于它的表达很简洁啊，GMAT考试不就是推崇简洁吗？
请教各位大侠了！

If the part following the underscored part doesn't exist. C would be a concise, thus correct choice.

The finite verb offsets makes the relative pronoun necessary.

如果改成an amount that is 14 percent more than it in the previous year对吗？

这里more than 和higher than 有没有文章？还是两个都可以用？谢谢！

关于more than 和 higher than 是不是都可以修饰 amount，我不太清楚。但是我觉得 an amount that is 14 percent more than it in the previous year 是不对的。问题出在代词 it 上。如果用 it 的话，不管从逻辑上还是从语法上，它指代的只能是前面已经出现的an amount，但是那个amount是1992年的amount，这样就成了1992年的amount和in previous year 的1992年的amount 相比，逻辑不通。如果把 it 改成 that 就对了。

我觉的C应该是有两个错误把，

1。不对称 2。同位语没有修饰对象

即使去掉后面未画线的部分也不对啊，

“14 percent higher than the previous year's figure”是否可以做其他成分呢？

c的错误在于形容词短语14 percent higher than the previous year’s figure与and 后面的句子不对称。offsets weak demand from Europe and Japan中的offsets明显需要一个单数形式主语。
