Verbal

RC1. Gray Marketing (3 paragraphs)

P1. Manufacturers and retailers usually consider gray marketing detrimental to their margin and profit, since gray markets snatch market share by offering lower prices.

P2. Under certain market conditions, gray marketing can benefit manufacturers and retailers. The favorable market condition is met when the customer base is distinctively segmented- i.e. the presence of a significant number of both price sensitive and price insensitive customers.

P3. In the presence of market segmentation, manufacturers and retailers can increase profits by charging higher prices to price insensitive customers while improving the quality of the service. This measure will most likely offset the loss of revenue from price sensitive customers.

Q1. What is the primary purpose of the article?

-->To explain how gray marketing can benefit the profit and margin of manufacturers and retailers.

(This answer was a close call, not very sure)

RC2.  Sea Serpent (3 Paragraphs)

P1.  A travel guide mentioned the existence of sea serpents based on the recent recovery of huge and amorphous organisms from the ocean. However, little was known about the true identity of these organisms.

P2. Recent scientific findings provided unequivocal evidence that these organisms are in fact a type of whale.

P3. Due to the mystery-mongering attitude of writers on this topic, it may take longer for the general public to accept the fact suggested by recent scientific findings.

Q1. Which of the following would the author most likely to agree regarding the travel guide?

--> The travel guide shares the same attitude with some writers on this topic.

Q2. Which of the following would the author most likely to agree regarding the organisms recovered from the ocean?

-->They are huge and have no skeletons or distinctive shapes

RC3 .  remature Works of Writers ( 2 Paragraphs)

P1. Although not a common approach, study on the early works of writers can provide insights into the origin of their mature works.

P2. Use the works of a French writer as an example.

Q1. Which of the following would the author most likely to agree regarding the study on the early works of the writers?

--> It is uncommon.

A confusing but incorrect choice is: The study is often trivialized.

Q2.  Which of the following would most seriously undermine the author’s argument in favor of the study on works produced by fledging writers?

-->Writers often make some radical change at some point of their career

RC 4 Beginning of modern science (1 or 2 paragraphs, can't recall the details)

P1. Though the prevalent view is that modern science emerged in 16-17th century, Some of the most important approaches defining the modern science or thoughts shaping the modern science could in fact be traced back to as early as 14th century. Evidence: XXX, including the application of Occam's razor. However, it was not until 16th century that scientists started to perform experiments to confirm hypotheses.

CR.  The legislation can choose between two initiatives: a job program and [some other program]. In order for the government to endorse the job program, the legislation needs to cut spending on energy and transportation, and [some other conditions]. In order for [the other party/group] to endorse either initiative, the legislation will have to increase spending on energy. Which can be inferred from this?

-->  It is impossible for both the government and [the other party/group] to endorse the job program

The RC questions I got today were remarkably harder than those in the GMAT prep.
