1 - Apply early.  

2 - Really go through your application to identify points to clarify and ways in which you might be able to strengthen your essays.  

3 - Use the essays as a way to differentiate yourself from the applicant pool. What's different about you? For some candidates it may not be your work experience it, it may be other aspects of your background.
