Answer (E)

Contrary to intent, the wording in choice C suggests that physicians can use a Doppler ultrasound device after they detect fetal heartbeats.

I cannot understand the explaination of C. I am wondering about the effects of ing here....

Could you help me explain it?

To use a Doppler ultrasound device is the means not the aim,
thus a physician could not use a Doppler ultrasound device by detecting heartbeats which is the real aim.

此句话, 错在它把原句的主次意思颠倒了.
意思: a physican 通过 detecting fetal hearbeats... 能够使用 a Doppler ultraound device. 其实翻译成中文后, 也不合理.

E) Using a Doppler ultrasound device, a physician can detect fetal heartbeats by the twelfth week of pregnancy.
意思: a physican 通过使用 a Doppler ultrasound device 能够 detect fetal ...

请问这题B为什么不对,ING放在句尾不是可以修饰谓语吗?放在句尾有逻辑关系的问题吗?好象没听说啊?

B选项的意思是，fetal heartbeats ...using a device啊，不合逻辑吧。

dangling modifier错误修饰的意思

A中， Using a Doppler ultrasound device, fetal heartbeats can be detected by the twelfth week of pregnancy. using这个动作的实际发生者，在本句里应该是fetal heartbeats ，婴儿的心跳本身怎么能用仪器自己来测量呢？

分词短语在句首或句尾，做伴随动作或结果，逻辑与形式主语必须一致

在逻辑上，只能是医生用仪器来测量胎音，从逻辑角度上来说，ABCD都是错误的，只有E正确！

用中国话解释一下OG解释里的这个专有术语

垂悬修饰语（dangling modifier）的特点：修饰语在句中找不到逻辑上被修饰的对象。分词结构、不定式结构和介词短语做修饰语修饰句子时，易发生垂悬修饰现象。
