9. Astronomers at the Palomar Observatory have discovered a distant supernova explosion, one that they believe is a type previously unknown to science. (A) that they believe is (B) that they believe it to be (C) they believe that it is of (D) they believe that is (E) they believe to be of 又把这题翻出来了。^_^

比较让我疑惑的是,为什么不用the one,,而用one....为什么省掉了that..OG的解释我一点也不明白。

one本身就是特指,所以不用再加定冠词the,类似请参阅OG134C的解释;

one是代词,that在句中也起类似代词的作用,所以that可以省略而不影响句子结构。

In OG,. Finally, A, B, and D lack of and so illogically equate this particular explosion with the whole class of explosions to which it belongs: it is not a type but possibly one of a type.

One of a type, it sounds ok to me but don't know the official rule about one of a type, one of a kind, or ... we can't say one of a chair, right?

For this particular question, can we say "..... explosion, one type previously unknown to science?"
