The first political passengers on modern railroad cars were a president, a senator, and a governor that had been traveling to Washington,DC.together on the Liberty Express in 1907.
A
B The first political passengers on modern railroad cars were a president, a senator, and a governor, who traveled
E A president, a senator, and a governor were the first political passengers on modern railroad cars traveling.
I feel that E is better than A, if there are no other choices.
Liberty Express is also something a railroad.
the reason that E looks better is A looks like:
"The passenger on road A were John that had been traveling to DC, together on road B."
Besides,"had been traveling" seems not fit here.

如果只有A,E选择E,当然E中的TRAVELLING修饰对象也有问题。而且FIRST的位置改变了,不符合公理,A中的HAD BEEN TRAVELLING不对,其实B应该是正确答案作者: raymondmba 时间: 2002-9-23 17:29
B is better than A and E.作者: twinhead 时间: 2002-9-24 08:00
I miss the B in my question and sorry for misleading.
However, the answer PR provided is just B.

a an E both have some errors as follows:
a) verb tense is wrong; that modifies someone
e) what "travelling" is disigned to nmodify? if it is used to modify cars, the meaning is definitely distorted. if it is to modify those guys, a "," should be added.(作为伴随状语)作者: twinhead 时间: 2002-9-24 22:16
那是不是E在car后面加,就对;B在who前面去掉,就错呢?
