Overall feeling is that the test is easier than Kaplan practise. So if you are panic at Kaplan, don’t be worried. My suggestion is that focus on the New Oriental materials and GMATPrep practise. They have similar level of difficulty as the real test.
Essay: don’t know the result yet. But the template is extremely helpful. I can not overemphasise this point! I will provide my template as soon as I got my results.
Argument: Apogee company’s profitability and centralisation.
Issue: People are becoming more respectful of each other.
SC: parallel structure, logic noun, ... no new things but more difficult than in the exercise. The following ones I have confused in the exams. For your attention.
1. A: The law required...., mandated...., allowed, and it granted....(my choice)
B: The law required...., mandated...., allowed, granting....
The other choices are not correct.
2. A: ....possibility of life span to comprise even years (my choice)
B: ...possibility that life span comprises even years
C: ....possibility that even years comprise life span...
Mainly to distinguish between possibility of /than (I think both are OK) and the use of comprise (I think Whole comprises parts)
3. A: Investors know the company’s threats, including among them competition threat and the declining sales for divisions.
B: Investors know the company’s threats, among them competition threat and the decline in sales of division (my choice)
4. A: In an America steeped with romanism, cemeteries were laid out beyond cities.
B: Cemeteries, in America steeped with romanism, were laid beyond cities. (my choice)
CR: Not difficult. Remain cool you should be ok. Again, some tricky ones are as follows.
1. Cells need t-gland to grow constantly. Cancer cells have a lot of t-glands so they can grow endless. Drug to block t-gland will benefit patient. WEAKEN
A. Drug can not reliably block t-gland. (a confusing one)
B. Drug block t-glands both of cancer and non cancer cells. (my choice)
2. Two bridges: A is in renovation so no payment needed to pass it. Therefore, the toll fee of B should be increased to compensate the loss since majority of people use bridge B and ....(to continue)
My answer: It is inconvenient for people to switch between the bridges.
3. Russian eats potatos, other vege and a little meat. Potatos production has declined. So to expect % of potatos in daily diet to go down as well because the increase in potatos price due to the less supply. STRENGTHEN
My choice: other vege same nutrituion as potatos are cheaper and available.
Confusion one: potatos are more expensive than meat.
4. Drug producers’ concern and Government new regulation body to investigate and report quality of drug. WEAKEN. It’s from old Jijin. Please refer to old one
Answer: Exceggerated news reports exist currently and the new body will stop them.
5. State has no law to regulate financial planners. But it is not a big deal since there are laws for accountants, lawyers, analysts, even though some of them are part time financial planners. ASSUMPTION
My answer: no financial planner are not accountants, lawyers, analysts.
6. Country imposed tariffs on export of unprocessed beans to protect its own processing industries. If apply no tariffs, the farmers are benefited but the government concerns that the tariff protect the industry in the urban and without tariff, the unemployment rate will go up. WEAKEN
My answer: small farmers are driven out of the land due to the tariff and are moving to the city.
7. Boldface: I can’t remember the full statement but it is similar to JiJin about insurance declamations between different places. And the author agrees only part of the view and completely disagree it as a whole.
RC: no long article and easy to read. Just to be aware of the questions.
1. Global warming and cooling effect of pollution. Pollutants can cool the world because they can interact with the cloud to form the rain droplets. Night temperatures have increased while day temperatures remain stable (one question asking you why?). However, the cooling effect is complex. For example, temperature is higher on snow surface than on the ice surface (one question asking you why the author mentioning ice surface). The conclusion is that pollution masks the global warming effect. If stop pollution now, the cooling effect will be finished immediately but the global warming is long term effect and will continue so the global temperature will increase substantially. (very strange no question on conclusion)
2. Union / Africa American relationship. The key topic in this article is that whether second world war has improved the relation or not (one question about it). One point of view considered yes but another side said no (the union always kept its status quo biased to the white people). The author considers that two sides are not consultable and the history reality is not reducible to either (one question on this). The author also proposed a dilemma about the union. To keep the status quo or to be inclusive (more black people).
One question is about the context of this article.
3. Women and politics. Traditional view excludes women in political research. Recently some new points of view have been developed (one question here). Some think women should be considered in the political analysis and especially linked to the social role or sth.... Another lady considers women has role in political partison. She thinks at beginning women are part of a party although the party does not give too much importance to them because women need an established party to express their views. But since no party gives too much shit to them (one example that one party famous for tolerant to women but still it failed to give priority to women—one question on this), women became frustrated and organised their own party.
4. IT in business. Very easy article. It’s about huge investments in IT but no positive results on the business. The author argues why this paradox happens and one theory is that only technology which is in advance and can not be copied is the key to success. And obviously IT does not belong to this category because IT is accessible to everyone.
Math: some difficult questions but old Jijins are extremely important. Can’t provide more, sorry for that.
One is from old Jijin. Three way of payments: less 10 people, pay total of 100; between 10 and 20 (<20), pay 100 total and plus 10 each; above 20, pay 20 each. How much paid by A?
1) A has two more people than B (11-9)
2) A pays 10 more than B
Answer C. It’s from old Jijin. Maybe my number is wrong. I can’t remember it.
Anyway, with less than three months preparation, I am quite happy with the result. GMAT is not too difficult if you can stay cool and keep a clear mind. I wish you all the best for the exam. ETS is stupid and you can beat it in whatever ways you want!
