"I have found the caliber of classmates at Booth to far exceed my expectations. The students here want to be challenged and work hard, not just receive a 'rubber stamp' of approval before moving into leadership positions. The analytical rigor is world-class and students are surprisingly well-balanced, not what I had imagined as 'quant jocks.' I never realized before that in addition to finance/investment banking jobs, Booth sends more students to top-tier consulting companies (i.e., McKinsey) than any other business school in the world."

"The energy and scale of the place is incredible. There is a constant stream of worldwide leaders visiting campus to meet with students and an immense array of diverse opportunities to pursue beyond the classroom. Perhaps most important, the school has broadened the idea of leadership beyond aspiring to be a CEO of a for-profit company. Now, students aspire to apply HBS's leadership skills to lead nonprofits [and] public-sector companies, and even balance their work and family life."

"I came to business school hoping for a two-year 'vacation' where I could network; however, I ended up being blown away by the academics. I learned so much and was so engaged in all of my classes that I took an overload of courses every quarter. The relationships I made and the sense of community at Kellogg is phenomenal -- my dad passed away during school and the outpouring of support was amazing. Additionally, over 30 students pitched in a helping hand or did a class project related to my startup; the collaborative atmosphere where everyone wants to help each other succeed was truly amazing."

"I can't imagine pursuing a health-care-specific MBA at any other school than Duke. First, the medical community is first-rate with regard to research and practice. Second, the urban-suburban location is perfect for studying business, particularly given Duke's proximity to Research Triangle Park. Finally, the combination of strong entrepreneurship and health-care programs makes Duke an exceptional place to learn about the business of health care, and what innovation actually means in the real world."

"The Multidisciplinary Action Project (MAP) during my first year at Ross provided an outstanding opportunity for me to grow prior to my summer internship. When I did my internship, I put my MAP experience to work and came away looking like a rock star compared with the other interns. MAP really is the differentiator Ross touts it to be. Also, teamwork is a major emphasis at Ross. Virtually every course I took required working in teams. This process helped refine my ability to assess people's strengths, manage conflict, and delegate tasks."

"Haas offers [an] excellent small, tight-knit group of colleagues that created deep friendships. [There were also] great networking opportunities with large companies, small companies, and venture capitalists due to both the location of the school and the effort of students/administration to bring speakers to campus. For my interests in high technology and clean technology, the cross-collaboration with other departments on campus and the national labs next door gave me the ability to gain deep content knowledge."

"I think that Darden offers unique attributes that were key to my success and which I could not have gotten at other schools. Specifically, the interaction with professors was critical in helping me learn the concepts and feel more confident in my abilities. [Professors] were always available thanks to the open-door policy, and they were exceptionally willing to help and mentor on both academic- and job-related issues. Second, the case method is the only way I could have been engaged in my studies, since I was used to being in the working world and having my opinions heard. I also liked that it afforded me the chance to learn about a breadth of industries and business issues, and forced me to become articulate, persuasive, and think critically and quickly. I also learned to handle ambiguity of information and make decisions by asking key questions. Lastly, the alumni network at Darden has been amazing in both my B-school and career searches. Alums always responded quickly and with enthusiasm."

"SMU Cox is a top regional school. While it may never be a national school such as Harvard, Wharton, or Stanford, its location and reputation in Dallas enables students to be exposed to just as many opportunities as the top 10 schools do; but the placements are more concentrated geographically. This would be a cause for concern were it not for the booming economy of the southwestern U.S. and Texas in particular."

"I felt that Cornell offers a great structure of being able to specialize in your career field beginning in the second semester of your first year, something that not many other schools offer. In addition, Cornell is one of the best places for people who want to get into asset management, as I was able to run money and develop a track record in our student-run hedge fund, the Cayuga Fund. This is useful for my resume and talking points during interviews."

"I have been incredibly impressed by the quality of the education (I learned far more than I had expected), the quality of the student body, the quality of the professional opportunities offered to students ... and an unparalleled access to leading executives visiting the campus almost on a daily basis. The school's small size and personal attention enables each student to meet on an individual basis with some of the world-leading executives. I have been to numerous dinners and lunches on campus with Fortune 500 CEOs [and] CFOs, from which I have been inspired. Similarly, I can't imagine having a greater access to some of the world's most highly regarded faculty thanks to our small class size."

The curriculum is challenging and requires patience, but it also prepares students to make complex business decisions using innovative solutions that cannot be taught simply by reading a textbook."

"UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School offers the unique combination of top-notch academics, an idyllic setting, a collegial environment, and excellent job placement services. The school's unparalleled collegiality differentiates it from most of its peers in that students form lasting, collaborative relationships from the outset. Rather than setting a competitive tone, the faculty and staff establish a community centered on team-based, collaborative initiatives centered around the school's five core values of excellence, leadership, integrity, community, and teamwork."

The exposure we had to some of the great thought leaders and industry leaders of our time has been inspiring and will undoubtedly continue to shape my career and life decisions going forward."

One Student's View
"One thing I've really noticed at Stern which stands in contrast to MBA students I've met at some other top schools is that the students are, for lack of a better word, really cool. Everyone in the program is extremely driven, but there seems to be more of a sense of camaraderie. For example, people helping me to prepare for interviews which they themselves were not offered, or [for which they were] competing directly against me. Everyone is extremely bright, with their own unique experiences, and people generally seem interested in learning together, rather than trying to one-up each other. Arrogance really does not exist in my class at Stern."

"Kelley offers a unique blend of intense academic rigor with an intimate team-focused environment. The coursework is demanding, and Kelley does an excellent job at preparing students for interviewing, networking, and career guidance. Professors are widely accessible -- from office hours to dinner parties to tailgating events. Although I was concerned that the Bloomington location would be a geographic limitation [for recruiting], my concerns were overdone. Full-time [job] offers are national in scope; my colleagues have accepted offers in New York, Boston, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Chicago, and Dallas."

"I believe that the close-knit, family-like atmosphere at Michigan State promotes a sense of community that any prospective student would be hard-pressed to find at another institution. This sense of community creates a network of alumni [who] are ready and willing to give back to the program and its current students. The MBA program at Michigan State also allows students to take what they learn in class and apply it to real-world situations via classes that are focused on consulting engagements and via extracurricular activities. Mixing the theoretical with the practical provides students with a more holistic learning experience and better prepares them to face challenges in their internships and full-time careers."

My class size was less than 90 people so I know everyone personally and can call on any of them throughout my career. Most public MBA programs are larger and students miss out on really getting to know their fellow students. To me, getting to know everyone and learning from their experiences is the true value of the MBA experience. The program is not without its faults, but that is going to be true anywhere. Overall the quality of the program, strong alumni network, low cost, small class size, and campus culture make the Texas A&M MBA a steal."
