5 EIGHT MILE

Ever since The Marshall Mathers LP came out, I'd wanted to do a movie showing something similar to how I came up, something loosely based on that part of my life. I always believed that a lot of kids would be able to relate to my story, the story of the underdog.THE UNDERDOG WHO WINS.Back in 2000, people were offering me roles in films, coming at me with movie offers and stuff. It was something I knew I might want to dabble in at some point, but I wanted to stay focused on the music for the time being and do films later. I did kind of worry about making a film: I felf like it was going to affect my recording by taking me out of the studio-- which is where I really wanted to be. And also, what if you take all this time to do a movie and then it fails?

   What kept me interested was that I knew I wanted to do something authentic, and something that had a reason for being out there-- I didn't want to just bank on my success.

Then Jimmy Iovine set up a meeting with this guy Brian Grazer, who ended up being one of the producers of my film. For the first half of our first meeting I was kind of sitting back and just feeling him out. Brian said he'd seen me on MTV-- "EM TV" in particular, which was a special deal where I kind of took over for a bit and was all over the network. He said that seeing me in that light made him want to work on something with me. He saw that I had potential as an actor. Then he started asking me about my music, and how much of it came out of the reality of my life. I could tell he wanted to make something real, something that would speak to me and the kids out there like me. So the meeting ended, and we said we'd pick a writer, work out some ideas, and go from there.

   When the first version of the script came along, I remember thinking it was so close to that period of my life it was crazy. I knew it was the story I wanted to do. It took me a while to finally start reading-- because I can't stand reading. I mean, if there are no pictures in a book, forget if. The only book that I can remember ever reading front to back was LL Cool J's , and that was when I was on planes a lot. (If you're a fan of LL, and you want to know some really personal things about him, it's a pretty good fucking book.) But anyway, once I started reading that script and got past the first three, four, five pages, I was completely drawn into it. I called Paul and said, "Let's do it." Proof and I had sat down with the scriptwriter, Scott Silver, and told him a bunch of crazy stories. We told him how we used to battle, told him about the clubs we used to go to, and the script started to come together even more.

{译者废话:这是上文提到的EM TV,共三段。}
