正好我看到我笔记上记了这几点..不是大牛，就是复述一下：
appear这个动作实际上不是Neanderthal 发出的（仔细体会一下）  它与

indicates 平行  用simple present
have been equipped 用来表现equip时态  不然用appear to 加原型 不就

是appear to equip了...
然后 path是因为这是整个neanderthal人的路，用单数
最后 appear as=show up as(manhattan上说的) 和 appear to 的意思完

全不一样...

appear as 貌似就是：以XX方式出现 appear在这里做“出现”
appear to 是：似乎 好像  appear 在这里就是“好像”的意思

关于equip，除了上面Wellsli提到的时态问题，还有语态的考量。
这里是不能用appear to equip的，抛开时态的因素，也必须用equipped。
因为equip的用法从来都是，
1. equip sb./sth with sth
2. equip sb./sth to do
3. equip sb./sth for sth.
4. equip sb./sth for doing(这个用法在字典里是允许的，但在GMAT似乎就次与to do)

eg. Please equip yourself with a sharp pencil and a rubber for

the exam.  --- Oxford

可以看出，如果equip在这里用主动语态就要求后面接动作对象，而不是动词

我的理解 会不会是have been equipped是present prefect  表示过去的equip对现在的影响  用现在完成时 要比 be equipped 好一点呢？

另外 appear就是“好像”  N人看起来好像能够越过一切障碍， “看起来好像”这个动作肯定不是“N人”发出的， 我感觉就是一个“画外音”....我感觉GMAT题目中， 有很多画外音...  暂且这么理解吧   而且记住是最重要的~

为什么用have been equipped也困扰了我好久，经过仔细推敲OG13里面对时态

的解释，我觉得这里appear to have been equipped中，equip的时态用的是have

been equipped，现在完成时，用以表达过去不确定时间（an indefinite time

in the past）所发生的动作，文中Neanderthal已经disappear了，符合现在完成

时对时间的要求。
本题的关键就是equip这个动作发生的时间是过去不确定的一个时间，只能用现在

完成时，一般过去时也要求有有一个确定时间，如I went to school yesterday.
