关于流行和时尚的杂志的健康板块：
吃人工糖aspartame(一种约比蔗糖甜200倍的甜味剂)的人比吃糖的状况好.因为aspartame确实可导致增重而不是减重。比如，高浓度的aspartame可通过消耗让大脑产生饱的感觉的化学物质来触发对食物的渴求。进一步地，研究显示，如果在连续运动至少45分钟后消耗糖，可提高身体燃烧脂肪的能力。因此，在运动后喝aspartame做甜味剂的果汁的人将失去消耗calorie的效果。因此食用spartame的人比吃糖的人更不容易达到他们的饮食规定的目的。

我是这样想的,1增重而非减重并不能代表better off
                   2更不容易达到饮食规定的目的,不可能说明这种人工糖对人有好处,反而是不好.
但觉得还是不能整体把握该文到底再说什么

Just for discussion:

The arguer is trying to convince people to consume sugar rather than artificial sweeter
aspartame.  According to the arguer, the aspartame can actually contribute to weight
gain rather than weight loss and people consuming aspartame instead of sugar are
unlikely to achieve their dietary goals. This arguement, however, are not convincing
for several reasons.

1. The arguer assumes that people tend to consume high level aspartame in the diet,
but this assumption is not supported by any evidence provided in this argument, nor
is it supported by daily experience.

2. This arguement relies on an additional assumption that people tend to exercise at
least 45 mintues of continuous excercise.  But it is not likely the case.  Generally speaking,
ordinary people are not likely to exercise continuous for such a period of time.

3. This arguement only describes the negative effects of consuming Aspatame and the
benefits of taking sugar, and never mentions the positive result of eating aspartame and
the negative result of taking sugar.  Without careful comparing the pros and cons
of consuming aspartame and of consuming sugar, the argument is not convincing.

adj.状况好的
经济状况好的，富裕的

Peope who use the artificial sweetener aspartame are better off consuming sugar.

这句话的意思是：

“食用人工糖酯的人如果改用白糖（作为甜味剂），（身体）状况会更好些。”

这个“状况会更好些”就是由“better off”来表达的。

与“better of”相对应的是“worse off”,也就是“情况会更糟些”。

可能你不习惯这样的表达，只要你多看几次，多记几次，就会习惯了。
