Tips for acing your admissions interview--From Michigan

To ensure you do well at your interview, the admissions experts at Ross came up with the 5 most critical Dos and Don'ts:

DO know the school. Every school you interview with will ask you why you want to attend that particular school. Know why you want to attend the program beyond the rankings and brochure talk. Illustrate how the unique aspects of the school抯 MBA program will help you bridge your past work experience and future career goals.
DON't bite your nails. Act professional. Beyond the obvious rules of wearing professional attire and showing up early/on-time, make sure to curb any nervous habits. In other words, don抰 click your pen, bite your nails, shake your leg, speak too fast or forget to take your winter coat off during the interview (believe it or not, it happens!). Try to relax and focus on having a calm and engaging conversation.
DON't forget your past. Know your resume cold - everything is fair game. Be able to explain everything on your resume in a succinct and clear manner. Additionally, be prepared to cite examples when you have demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills. Balance these examples so that they are structured and clearly state the Situation, Action you took and Results, but don抰 sound too rehearsed.
DO stand out from the crowd. Even if the interviewer does not directly ask you ?make sure you illustrate how your background, personality and skill set will add value to the MBA class. Remember, you are one of many so let us know why you are unique and give us a way to remember you!
