请问如果不加did的话，句子的结构该如何解释呢？

that是定语从句，这里是文明和文明的对比，加上did以后就是 文明的繁荣和文明的繁荣对比。

前面没有谓语，所以加上did会不平衡的，应该是文明和文明的对比。
