我倒是觉得less of a commitment有点awkward

a smaller commitment这种表达我也不知道对不对。。。但是their parents and grandparents 后面一定要加had的呀，要不就可以理解成是他们的父辈和work career比较了

多谢多谢，但是我记得 i eat more apples than Tom这种表达应该可以吧，省略了Tom后面的do,
我看Manhattan是这么说的，主要是为了防止ambiguity,
比如 i like pizza more than AAA, we dont know what AAA actually is, then we can't omit the verb in case of ambiguity.
改为，i like pizza more than AAA do( AAA is a person)
或者，i like pizza more than AAA( AAA is a kind of food)
所以还是有点小纠结~

你理解错了。。i eat more apples than XXX……后面的这个XXX必须是object，如果这要是Tom，就必须是Tom does。

这里必须要加上does啊……
不然会产生歧义，
不知道你是吃apple还是吃tom啊……

同意楼上说的，如果than后面结的是object才不用补足助动词

不过，我也不明白
less of a commitment
楼主搞清楚了吗？看起来好奇怪的结构！
