A jewelry dealer initially offered a bracelet for sale at an asking price that would give a profit to the dealer of 40 percent of the original cost. What was the original cost of the bracelet?
(1) After reducing this asking price by 10 percent, the jewelry dealer sold the bracelet at a profit of$403.
(2) The jewelry dealer sold the bracelet for $1953

答案选A，我选D
(1)能推出cost没有问题。对于(2), 我的思路是let cost be X then the equation would be X+40%X=1953  X=1395
What's wrong with (2)?

我觉得题目有问题。我赞成lz的想法。
但是不知道lz有没有注意到一个情况，DS题中如果答案是D，那么实际上从条件1得出的答案都是和条件2得出的答案是一致的。而这道题从条件1可以算出cost为1550，从条件2算出cost却为1395（实际1953为asking price降价10%的答案）。 非要说条件2错的话，只能说条件2并没有给出1953是否是asking price。

You do not know if the final selling price is the initially offered price.

You mean a bargain might appear?

Yeah. The seller might raise the final selling price as well. The stimulus gives no indication of the change from the plan. So we do not know for sure how different is the plan from the final execution.
