They want to know for a few different reasons. First of all, they want to make sure that your career is progressing over time. If you take a new job and make less money, then you most likely weren’t promoted. They also want to better understand your reasons for applying to school. So if, for example, you are already earning $1,000,000 a year, they might question your reasoning for going to school. They do NOT use this information to compare candidates—they of course realize that applicants from India and smaller cities in China will earn less than applicants in London and New York City. So don’t stress about this—and no matter what you do, don’t LIE about your wages! The background checks will catch these errors easily.
Hope this helps, and good luck! |
