代词指代问题...

代词指代让人好困惑啊~想搜索前人的汗水也没搜索到。。

我不明白的是，当出现A of B 的时候，代词it或they是可以指代A的吧？那究竟能不能指代B？？
OG有的题说可以有的题又说不行。

盼望指导~~！！

首先区分一下B'A 和A of B  

前者无论后面出现什么代词都只带不了B只能指代A

后者理论上，代词指代A,B 都有可能，看单复数和逻辑意思了

PS：你是不是想说A of B ,which  ?

谢谢你的回答。原句是这样的：
1，Much of the local artisans' creative energy was expended on the creation of Buddha images and on consturction and decoration of the temples in which they were enshrined.

这里的they指代了of后面的temples.

但是
2，Fossils of the arm of a sloth found in Puerto Rico in 1991, and dated at 34 million years old, made it the earliest known mammal of the Greater Antilles islands.
解释说这句之所以错是因为it不能指代sloth...可是这个不也是of后面的词么？

 首先第一个they肯定不是指代temples,因为which指代temples, 我觉得they指代constuction and

decoration

第二个不是说只带不了，而是说只带不清，你说it是不是还有可能指代arm呢？

阿，有道理喔！！they不可能指代temples嘛~哈！

恩，第二句话的解释是because sloth is the object of a preposition and not the subjcet of the

sentence, there is no reasonable antecedent for the pronuon it.
按这样说，好像A of B的B是不能指代的喔。。我觉得，代词好像只能指代充当主语的词，比如说充当宾语，表语

的时候就不能指代。
是这样么。。
