我看不太懂题目，我没看出题目有什么内在的discrepancy需要解释的。

E绝对不是。
题目中的discrepancy是：Compact cars 经常追尾，但交通事故“却”与不经常追尾的中型车差不多。即Compact cars 追尾还不经常发生事故，为什么？

so (A) is correct.

是不是说尽管compact被追尾的多（48%），但c在交通事故中少（只占38%）；而middle被追尾的少（只有21%），但m在交通事故中却多（31%）？
我觉得A的意思不是说“cars, which follow the compact cars, feel more safty”，而是说因为compact is“easy to see”，因而 “minimize the chances of a rear-end collision”就是说可以避免被追尾。
所以根本解释不了discrepency.
