但是我有一个疑问E中为什么than后面不是than did the novels of James Fenimore Cooper呢

为什么少了did?这样 比较前后不是不对等了吗?

楼上正解，至于为什么不用did，可解释如下：

I eat more apple than you do,

I eat more apple than you       有歧义

I eat more than you

 

如果又出现subjective and objective, the did is needed to 确认谁被修饰

如果只有主语，则助动词可省

此处很明显novels of James F. C是做主语的，did可省
