为什么答案是D。不是说不能用 it  指代前面的名词吗？最起码也应换成that was。
而且C 表达的很清楚。将 (that was)一起省略，不是通用原则吗？

1）现在分词；2）一个新的名词用来慨括整个句子
而which引导的和不定式一定是错误的干扰选项

那是不是说这种省略只在than usual时出现呢？希望不会碰到选项同时有省略又有补出的的题。
提出的原题，这会有新理解。
making在这里是用一个新词，来修饰前半句。和那一类不能用which和不定式来指代前句的题是一类的。可见刚才的我是有点犯困。。。

我觉得选项B的that后面就省略了it was，否则比较前后就不对称了。你们怎么看？

关于省略是我犯迷糊了。比较的时候，前后都是系表结构，gmat中通常会将后面的系动词省略。
关于it指代的问题还是不很明白。我们不是在比较中一直用that指代前面出现过的单数名词，those指代复数名词。
例如：rice has protein of higher quality than that in wheat.这里用that指代了protein.
不过，我查了一下大多数有比较的题，发现如果前后两部分都是句子，则后面的主语就是用it指代前面的主语。

越复习发现问题越多，做的很熟的题，一下子也会生出问题来，还要大家多帮忙。谢谢大家的回复了。
