句子结构：…, … differences in… help the listener determine…

 

 

主语是differences，谓语是help，双宾语分别是listener和determine.

 

(D) between应该是用于表达“二者之间”的含义，用于此处不正确；helps应该是help.

 

(E) between应该是用于表达“二者之间”的含义，用于此处不正确；被动语态的表达没有必要.

 

可是这里 subtle differences in how the two ears hear a given sound

 

two ears这里不就是两个耳朵相当于两者之间所以用between才对呀?

我的看法：

differences between XX and XX.  between...and...是个习惯搭配，没有见过between后面不跟and，而跟一个句子的。

但是用了difference in，后面就没有这个问题了，不用再跟一个and。

所以对这里的情况，后面是一个how开头的句子，用differences in更符合英语的表达习惯。

between在GMAT中一般用于 between A and B这种结构

这里使用between的确不对

因为how the two ears hear a given sound表达的是一个意思 而不是两个并列的意思
