E：答案中没有助动词do，省略不能成立呀。

(A) like that of earlier generations
(E) as it was of earlier generations
E中的it 我觉得指代不明。前文有it ，指代是house，但是这里的E中的it有混淆的意思。

1。我觉得：
   D中使用完成态的这个错误比E中没用助动词的问题大。
   助动词尽量补出，没说一定要补出。如果D答案其它都一样，多了个do,我选D

2. 拥有房子是年轻一代的目标,就象拥有房子是上一代人的目标一样,要用AS.IT 指代GOAL.

没错，it按意思理解应该是goal，但你有没有注意一个its：its own land is... 。同一个句子使用its,it，不怕引起混淆吗？而前面its明显指代house。
所以，我觉得A更好。

同意ZYH79,DO 在此可以省,反到是D的错误比较明显.

2中,主要是句意要求比较是引导词用AS不是LIKE. 代词的东东考虑在其次.

因为Ait指代不名，导致逻辑不清，这是GMAT中致命的错误哎
而like在这里表示像。。。没错呀

不过可能是like所指的goal离得太远了吧

我觉得 that 比E答案的it指代还混淆不清
另外，like引出的比较，多放在句首，就没见过放在末尾的。
