try to do sth=attempt to do sth(努力做，greater possibility)
eg: He tried to control his voice.(surely she can control her voice)   
try doing sth=test to do sth, try means to do or use something for a short while to discover if it is suitable, successful, enjoyable etc(尝试做，not much possibility)
eg: They decided they would try living in America for a while.(they may unsettled in America)
