OG答案是D，但是我印象中，thereby 不是有固定搭配是 thereby doing吗？
它在这直接跟动词原形是什么用法？是做therefore的意思？
而且原文中说，activate是和touch平行的，为什么touch是不定式，activate却可以省？或者说thereby在这里是做to的意思？

我觉得这里 and 中间省略了一个口语中会用到的"it" 英文正规书写里不能用it 来代替前一句话，所以就直接省略了，这个"it"是understood.
前一句话是描写个动作，而动作的结果activate    也可以理解成the acts of touch activate....

thereby 可以理解成 by the acts of touch therefore activating.....

我覺得瞭解詞的用法，可以從詞性入手，然後類比。
thereby是副詞，表示“因此，由此，从而”。
therefore/thus也是副詞，跟它相同意思，用法可以類比。
副詞不可能有後面絕對要加doing的結構，這是詞性決定的。而且副詞一般是不能代替介詞/to使用的。
thereby doing，thereby是作為副詞修飾doing這個動作。
官題中，and後面加thereby，只是爲了突出前後的動作有因果關係。如果沒有了thereby，僅僅根據and前後成份獨立平行的關係，是判斷不出exhibit和activate二者有什麽關係、發生先後順序等。
to touch each exhibit and thereby activate
就是touch和activate平行，因為and後面直接用了activate。
如果後面是to activate的話，平行的就是to touch和to activate.

但是OG中的解释是：Because to"touch"is an infinitive, the second verb form must be, as well, though the to may be implied.

也就是说，OG中也说了activiate是和to touch平行的，但是又说“though the to may be implied.” 虽然to被含蓄化了。。。这个是想能隐掉就能隐掉得吗。。。

然后OG中在正确答案后又有补充：The agent of the action is clearly indicated by the grammatical structure of the sentence; visitors areencouraged to "touch"... and thereby (to) activate.
我想知道它在thereby后面括号上to是什么意思呢？告诉我们此处本来要有to但是省略掉了？

它的意思是to可以保留，也可以去掉。對於句意的理解沒有問題。
to touch each exhibit and thereby activate
to touch each exhibit and thereby to activate
上面兩個句子，一個意思。
