问题introduce yourself, why mba why stanford, leadership examples, personal traits examples, value ranking, hobbit

Stanford interview questions
1st round, at the lounge of a 5 star hotel in Taipei, interviewer is a Stanford undergraduate and MBA, a very typical Stanford guy, smart, easy-going and humorous.
Question:
Introduce yourself
A book you recently read, what did you learn from it?
What’s your pastime and why?
A time when you brought change to an organization
Why MBA? Why Stanford?
The most challenging event you ever encountered and what did you learned from it.
Ethic dilemma: a time when your personal interest conflicted with public or company’s interest
Talk about one of your career transition
The interview is 45 minutes sharp, the next 15 minutes is for you to ask him questions. The whole interview is one hour exactly.
The interview is very causal and relaxing, like a normal conversation. But a lot of following questions, therefore, important thing is to think over your past experience and summarized them systematically.
That’s it, hope this is helpful to other Stanford applicants.

Stanford interview @BJ
R2, got the interview invitation one week ago.
The alumni is a CXO of a famous company, so it's not hard to find his profile on the internet. On that website, his smile is just as the sunshine of California, so was he in the interview.
The interview was just like a relax conversation, though I was still nervous a bit. The questions follow as below:
1. Self introduction, and "why that school" followed up when I was talking about my undergraduate school.
2. My current job, responsibilities, how many persons in my team, who I report to. Why I chose this job.
3. How did I know about MBA. Why Stanford, what other schools I applied for.
4. Strengths and weakness, how I deal with my shortcomings.
5. Detailed questions about the projects I presented on the resume. Why I could get so much opportunities to take leading positions though my few experience.
6. My aspirations, how can I make it happen.
7. Question about him. We talked a lot about his experience as an entrepreneur and he gave me some advice on my future career.
So many following-up questions that my English collapsed! I should have prepared better for the details of each of my statements on resume.
This alumni is quite smart and nice, giving me the most convenient interiview. At last, he commented that I'm "different". But I don't know what's that word means while he's writing report to Stanford.
Though previous experiences described Stanford interview as "time stricted", we spent about a hour to finish it, since I'm interested in his career progress and thus asked lots of questions.
In addition, he didn't take any notes while we were talking. So I guess Stanford would like to gain some general impression about applicants from alumni interivewer, or my interivewer has an amazing memory.
There's one week left for sending out decisions. Wish the information above be helpful for followers, and wish I can provide more helpful info from Stanford GSB one year later.

5,I just had the first interview of Stanford in Boston with an alumni.
She asked all the common questions and was really nice.
There were a lot of questions (over ten), so I am sorry I don't remember all of them.
Some of them are:
Why Stanford, Why MBA, Leadership
One time with a tough person.
One time with a great leader.
Greatest achievement.
passionate about what.
A book you have been reading recently.
Hobbies.
Most unforgetable experience.

She has a list of questions that Stanford gave her and she chose some from them. She took notes.

I think that's it. I will have another interview with Stanford Admision Office people.
I will share my exp with you guys later on.

Stanford 面经
Interviewed with a director in a VC firm (00 alum). He got bachelor from Harvard, and MBA from Stanford. He is very nice, though.
I caught a very bad cold before I did my Stanford interview (FT~ talk about bad timing!), and looked very tired during the interview. Spoke very slowly. Don't know what my interviewer will think of me. >_<
Anyway, here is the questions he asked.
1) Introduce yourself, and walk through resume
2) Leadership example
3) Failure
4) What did you do out of pure curiosity, meaning, not for degree, not for score, not for anything else, but curiosity? (Didn't expect such question, and didn't answer it very well).
5) Greatest achievement.
6) Questions for him.
Don't remember much, because of my bad cold~~~ For R2 applicants, please prepare for the curiosity question. It is on the standard question list given by Stanford GSB to alumni.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT STANFORD MBA PROGRAM INTERVIEWS
****************************************************************
Answers to FAQs from Candidates Invited to Interview

1. Is it a positive sign to be invited to interview?

Since this process has discrete outcomes – admission or non-admission – we worry that it can be misleading to discuss probabilities or chances. Please keep this in mind throughout the admission process.

Our intention is to interview each applicant ultimately offered admission to the Stanford MBA Program. Candidates invited to interview have been reviewed by the Admissions Committee and are considered competitive for admission. Given the overall strength of the applicant pool, however, we expect that the majority of candidates interviewed will not be offered admission. We say this not to be discouraging or mean-spirited, but to highlight the reality of a highly selective admission process.

2. What is the weight of the interview?

There is no specific weight assigned to the interview; the interview is only one part of a comprehensive process. A positive interview does not guarantee admission, while a poor interview does not, by itself, preclude admission. The written application, including the essays and letters of reference, is a critical part of the evaluation process. The interview is a key source of supplemental information.

3. May I interview with an Admissions Officer?

You may not request an interview with an Admissions Officer. We believe the interview offers a unique opportunity for you to learn more about the Stanford MBA Program in a personal setting. Having been through the MBA Program, our alumni are our best resource in sharing their academic, personal, and professional experiences with you.

4. May I have background information on my Alumni Interviewer? What information will my Alumni Interviewer have about me?

When you contact your Alumni Interviewer, feel free to ask her/him any appropriate questions regarding her/his background. The only information that your Alumni Interviewer will have about you is your resume, which you will send directly to her/him. All interviews address behaviors, skills, and attitudes that demonstrate your potential to grow in the Stanford GSB community as a student and to lead in the world after graduation. We do not direct your Alumni Interviewer to probe specific areas based on your application; we believe the bias that could result from such guidance would outweigh any potential evaluative benefit.

5. What should I wear to the interview?

You may wear either business casual or professional attire. At the time that you set up your interview, please ask your Alumni Interviewer which is preferable.

6. Is there any significance to when I received my interview invitation?

No, the timing of your interview invitation reflects only the order in which your application was reviewed. Interview invitations are extended from about a week after the round's deadline until about a week before the round's notification date, because it takes the Admissions Committee that entire period to review all applications thoroughly.

7. How can I prepare for the interview?

Our best advice is simple: be yourself. We suggest that you review your resume and your essays prior to the interview. The primary questions will revolve around behaviors, skills, and attitudes that we believe are key to good citizenship here in the Stanford community and vital to high-impact leadership post-MBA. There are no trick questions. We will ask you to reflect on your personal and professional experiences; what you’ve learned about yourself; and how best to lead people and manage situations.

Remember, the interview is both evaluative and informative. It is not only an opportunity for us to learn more about you, but also for you to learn more about the School. It is designed to be a positive exchange of ideas and information.

8. If I have a problem contacting my Alumni Interviewer, what should I do?

If your Alumni Interviewer has not returned your call or answered your email within two or three days, please contact XXX, Program Coordinator, at +xxxxxx or email her at xxxxx.

9. What should I do if I will be traveling over the next several weeks or if I am not near the location of my assigned interview?

Please contact XXX, Program Coordinator, at +xxxxxxx or email her at xxxxxxx immediately so that we can assign you another Alumni Interviewer. If you are in an area in which we have no interviewers, we can schedule an interview by telephone.

10. If I have any questions or issues related to the interview, what should I do?

Please contact XXX, Program Coordinator, at +xxxxxxxx or email her at xxxxxxx. We will address your concern as soon as possible.
