Kellogg School of Management’s New Dean Chronicles Her First 100 Days by Blog

Sally Blount, the new dean of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, plans to blog her way through her first 100 days on the job. Her posts, which began in mid-July when she first assumed her new role, provide insight into her background, her passions and her vision for the school.

Blount took the reins at Kellogg on July 15th, replacing Sunil Chopra, who has served as interim dean since Dean Dipak Jain stepped down last September. As she shares in her introductory blog post, the decision to say yes to Kellogg’s invitation was her second – her first was as a graduate student.

“The first time was life-changing. I have no doubt that the second time will be as well,” she wrote. “Both decisions were motivated by the same reason: Kellogg is a business school like no other,” she continued.

After obtaining her doctorate from Kellogg, Blount worked as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and as a member of the faculty at the University of Chicago School of Business (now Chicago Booth) before moving to New York University, where she taught and served as dean of the undergraduate college and vice dean of the Stern School of Business. She is an expert in the fields of negotiation and behavioral decision making.

Subsequent posts on Blount’s First 100 Days blog range from personal accounts of what it’s like to return as dean to a school where she first was a student to a pledge to newly appointed University of Chicago Booth School of Business Dean Sunil Kumar to work together “to extend Chicago’s position as a global destination for management education.”
