OG 句子的省略问题，求解

在OG上看到这样一句话，the result of the company`s cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits,which have increased 5 percent during the first 3 month of this year after falling.

问下这个falling省略是什么情况，为何用Ing形似啊，怎么来的，或者后面的语法规则是什么？
求问，不胜感激！！！

FALLING here is a gerund: a verb functioning as a NOUN. After falling is an adverb explaining how profits have increased. HOW have profits increased? They have increased AFTER FALLING OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS.
这里的falling的逻辑主语还是profits，而且它的时态跟随前面主句的时态，其实可以看成after the profits have fallen, they have increased 5 percent furing the first 3 month of this year.

多谢多谢，但是还是不明白的是，如果是after falling是解释how的话，岂不是就是方式状语？那为何有事an adverb呢？是否可以推出语法中有一条，连词+动名词=状语，貌似在曼哈顿里面没看到过。。。
望进一步求解。。。

状语应该基本等同于verb modifier吧...  然后这边因为解释how...所以function类似于一个adverb      -->个人意见

理解是可以理解，只是falling分词是可以这么用在曼哈顿没看过，也就是说after falling这样的用的话，和前面是什么时态无关是吧？

太长时间没看G了，以下回答的有点不准确
prepositional modifier can modify verb or noun—— depend on context.  If my memory works, I once saw on the manhattan discuz board: "prepositional modifier can be used as adverbial modifier"
很抱歉， 我个人对方式状语什么的说法真的不是很了解，但是如果按曼哈顿的说法，介词结构的修饰语，可以做副词性的修饰词，修饰preceding clause中的main verb部分，然后逻辑主语还是主句的主语。

其实楼主可以用一些简单的例子来验证：
Denny Crane shoot his partner by a gun.
Denny Crane walked out the GMAT center with a smile on his face.
Denny Crane had an affair after marrying his fifth wife.
其实这里都是描述这个动作是怎样发生或者是在什么情况下发生的。这就是prepostional modifier的作用。
